Steven Wilson Steven Wilson: New album 'The Overview' for early 2025

New interview with Steven below. At the 1hr 13min mark he mentions that a new album is almost completed and he anticipates an early 2025 release. He says that he does not plan to tour until the next album is released. He describes the new album as conceptual and very different. He says that it consists of just two twenty-minute pieces.

Interesting... Wonder if this will be more of a prog epic style (Thick as a Brick, A Passion Play, Tales from Topographic Oceans, etc.) or more like Voyage 34 or Tubular Bells. I'm always skeptical of long songs. They can be great, but often aren't. Even if they are great, I rarely find myself wanting to commit time to them.

I think that long songs are often more interesting than some short songs. I can think of the second period of Marillion, Jethro Tull, Yes, Genesis ,Mike Oldfield, etc. But it's true it's not always the case.

I love a well crafted long song. Time flies when I listen to "Close to the Edge", "Supper's Ready", "Scheherazade", "Awaken" and many, many others.

Steven Wilson himself has some fantastic prog epics such as "Anesthetize" or "Raider II". Most of my favorite songs by any prog artist are the longest.

Doubtful. Instead it's the now standard hyper aggressive cash grab by the SW camp getting some CD sales on top of whatever other formats end up being announced in the coming months.

There's no way the king of surround doesn't release his own solo album in surround. Considering how good the Harmony Codex mix was, it would be a crime that even he's not enough of a rebel to commit.

Any bets the deluxe boxed set is $99.95 (or more)? Any bets on a standalone surround release or will he pull the ultimate ripoff and lock it up in the boxed set?

Actually, when I first heard the term “prog,” I thought it meant “program” - something with several joined segments that made a whole. “Journey to the Centre of the Earth” is one example, “War of the Worlds” is another (with all respect to H.G. Wells). Of course, “Tubular Bells” is also one of those, without a story lone but very much a program. It’s gotta take at least one side of an LP, so it’s not just a two-minute pop song.

All his solo albums to date have had standalone surround releases, so it would be very surprising if it wasn't the case here.
