I was just reading your mind before I posted...you reacted the same way when Styx played with them...I was actually going to post that too...it makes sense that Tommy's version affects you the same way...it's pretty much the same concert vibe..I personally liked it a lot(the Styx version)...I think the orchestra component makes it more enjoyable...

Just bought the Tommy Shaw disc....but for my 14 year old granddaughter who is in school band, thought she might get a kick out of the youth orchestra, hopefully the tunes will be bearable for her. I have the Styx one as well and like you Clint, I really enjoyed it. Also, anyone wishing for Dennis DeYoung on BD-V, there is Dennis DeYoung and the Music of Styx from a few years ago. It’s not bad, from a smallish venue as I recall, but in stereo only

I sure hope I’m not going to regret pre-ordering this one. I haven’t liked anything after Paradise Theater and my absolute favorite album is Pieces Of Eight, followed by Grand Illusion. Plus, no Dennis DeYoung. I’d go listen to The Mission on Tidal, but I-kinda-wanna-be-surprised and crossing my fingers that the music will be great, even with the missing original band members.
Per usual, I have little to no nostalgic attachment with Styx. I've heard some radio tunes, plus a few classic albums. They're all right. Crystal Ball is probably my fav.
Having Youtubed a documentary on them, though, I'm not sad to see DdY out of the lineup. They replaced him with a good singer, better keyboardist, and better bandmate, from what I can tell.

I have very low expectations on this release....as much as I like Tommy Shaw...I'm not sure he's the guy I want mixing the surround...and his helper...Will Evankovich is pretty much a musician himself...I hope it turns out well because at this point....a standalone surround success would be great for our hobby....this is from 2017

I bought the CD months ago based on a lot of positive reaction to it by fans. I don't remember anything about the fidelity standing out... good or bad.

Performance wise, I do think it's probably the best thing to come from Styx in decades. That being said, I do not think its as good as anything they released with DeYoung still in the band.

I am shocked to get a email from amazon.ca that they say my delivery is supposed to arrive on July 27th(release date),WOW. Reason I am shocked is I am not a prime member so mostly get things either following week or sometimes weeks later and usually Canadian orders are delayed and don't get things even shipped on release date, so a double WOW.
