Having a discussion on this title and label on the Listing To Now thread- so anyone have these Quad recordings and can speak to their discreteness and overall sound?

I believe @Lute e is right in that they may be somewhat ambient overall, and I'm also thinking that since the ones I looked at were SQ, that it would be another contributing factor.

Also, as to the sound of the title-
HYMNS OF KASSIANI - CAPELLA ROMANA SACD 5.0
it has a very mono sound to me in it's 5.0, sort of like ambisonic but less directional.

Kind of fun to listen to things in Apple Music that don't seem to be otherwise available in surround.
(I do Mac -> USB -> DAC -> 5.1 speakers, and never saw how to get Tidal Atmos to work)

Dunno but when I asked about it many moons ago, they sent me an almost unmanageable 40channel 24/48 WAV file!!

Yikes. With that--and the right rig--you could do your own Atmos mix.

FWIW, I had a chance to hear excerpts from the full-Atmos mix at AES. Quite impressive.

I like it. Content-wise, it's more in the alternative/experimental direction than contemporary classical, if that make any sense to you.
(I think this was one of the last shows I saw before the pandemic, and it had some of this material)

Yeah--I like the last album So Percussion did with Caroline Shaw, too (and earlier albums & compositions both of them have done on their own or with other composers & ensembles). Lucky you, hearing this music live! Hoping the label finds a way to release the Atmos mix beyond streaming services.

I'm doing a vaxxed vacay, visiting Portland, OR (just in time for a historic Pacific NW heat wave!) and finding that my usual record-store haunts have survived, even if a whole bunch of my favorite restaurants haven't. Music Millennium still has plenty of atmosphere and an otherwise great selection, but (as usual) nothing much in the way of multi-channel. Haven't made it to Crossroads Music yet. But the classical music section at the Burnside Everyday Music is still seeded with the occasional SACD, even though the store itself has shrunk by half. There were a half-dozen "Living Stereo" 3-channel discs that I would have nabbed if they'd been 5 bucks apiece instead of 12. But this one was the right price:

I did! in the classical section, SACDs are on the far right up on shelves. Probably 200+ there.
