I have been informed the TRF DVD-A is actually stereo...cowabummer...
Yeah whenever possible, it’s a good idea to do some research on J-POP DVD-As, etc…. I have picked up a couple that even said 5.1 on the case, only to find out that one bonus track was 5.1 but the album itself was 2.0. 🤪 Cowabummer, indeed! 🐮🤣💦

Yeah I believe UA's Sun and Ayumi's Rainbow are like that. Right now I'm trying to hunt for those Yujiro Ishihara DVD-As because I know they're 5.1 all the way through but they're impossible to find!

Every time I see updates to this post, I get excited and think it is about "Japan" the new wave band.
Like Richard Barbieri convinced Steve Wilson to create a multichannel mix of their work for release by SDE, KScope, or somebody.

David Sylvian worked on several projects with Robert Fripp so Robert could simply get David in touch with Wilson.

Great secondary plan Simon.

In my imaginary plan that anyone from ‘Japan’ is actually interested in visiting an Atmos mix, I think it would be easier for Richard to ask Steven since Richard is the longest serving member of Steven’s ‘Porcupine Tree’

I saw them when sometime in 1975-76, pre-record deal I think, Quiet Life is fantastic

Just finished a nice 5.1 up-mix from Qobuz files via Penteo and RX 8 stem extraction (y) 😂

From Yoko Kanno and her ensemble comprising both a stable lineup of musicians and various collaborators named Seatbelts.
A spectacular mix of Techno Jazz/Funk music that up-mixes very nicely.

I am really bummed out that this show got cancelled after only one season; I guess the production costs may have been too much against what the ratings were or something similar 🤷‍♂️

That anime and several other around the time were absolutely essential to widening my tastes musically, visually, and narratively.

Also the earliest piece of media I can remember making me genuinely tear up.

I have sampled a bit of the band Japan & like 'em enough they are bookmarked with the intent to delve deeper. But it's so easy to get distracted.

And yes it is easy to get confused besides The Music of Japan and Japan the band there is also X Japan which is an actual band that is Japanese. With Elon Musk changing Twitter to "X", the former Twitter Japan is now X Japan. What will happen next?

The influence that David Sylvian’s vocal style had on Visual Kei’s singers is immense. Every time I hear one of these Japanese male vocalists, I can hear David‘s hauntingly beautiful voice.

Wish the powers that be would release some of Sylvain's haunting solo masterpieces on high rez SACD or BD~A ...... and in surround would be the ultimate bonus.

And IMO, Japan's LIVE recording OIL ON CANVAS which UMG did release as a Hong Kong Import on Stereo SACD is a masterpiece!

Recently on BBC I ran across an article about Kylie Minogue. It seems she's having a surge in new popularity. The point of the article is that at 55 yo, most of her new fans have no idea the songs that propelled her to stardom in the first place.

Her first big hit was a song called Locomotion. If you mention that to me the first thing that comes to mind is Chisato Moritaka singing this in English. I like this. It gives me a better idea what her voice & lyrics would be like if I understood Japanese.

The other cool thing I leaned about this song is it was written in 1962 by Gerry Goffin & his then wife Carol King! This is something I keep re-learning: some of our 70's music legends go back ten years or whatever before we ever knew about them.

I would be negligent if I didn't post the 1988 video from Kylie Minogue:

And don't forget Grand Funk Railroad did a cover version of this song too!
