20% Off - Sonatala - Direct to DSD Recording - Album of the Week
The Harmen Fraanje Quartet was founded in the summer of 2002. Hein Van de Geyn invited the musicians to his theater where they spent an extraordinary week together.
Harmen's music found a miraculous medium in this group.
On Sonatala from Challenge Jazz, the music of this extraordinary quartet has a power and simplicity that hits the listener in a very direct way.
Within the refreshing, clear compositions breathtaking improvisation takes place. All compositions are from Harmen Fraanje, except track 11 by Nelson Veras.
As one of the most promising upcoming quartets Challenge Jazz wanted to fully support the beautiful sound of the band with the best quality format. Challenge, therefore, decided to record this album direct to DSD and release the album initially as a hybrid surround SACD only (not on Stereo CD) and later as a Multichannel DSD and a Stereo DSD Download. This week, you can pick up this fine Jazz recording in Stereo and Multichannel DSD for 20% Off with code AOTW through September 6, 2019.
And while we're talking about the Jazz music of Harmen Fraanje, don't miss his recent recording First Meeting on the Just Listen label.
Recorded in Stereo and Multichannel DSD 256, First Meeting features the Harmen Fraanje Trio with Clemens van der Feen - Double Bass (also a member of the Feenbrothers), Tristan Renfrow - Drums and special guest Fredrik Ljungkvist - Tenor Saxophone and Clarinet. First Meeting is also available in Stereo DSD 512.
First Meeting has an open characteristic with music that provides endless space for creativity. It evolved as music with no prepared plans but only full attention to the creative process. This is a way of thinking and playing that you do not often encounter in the recording process.
