I haven’t touched alcohol in several months. That’s about to change today once I sample the first bottle of a 6-pack I purchased the other day.

I forgot to post about it at the time, but the Portland OR Holiday Brew Fest is back. Sort of, it's a new fest with new organizers, but same place and similar time frame. It was weird to only go on the Sunday morning. A group of us would go every year on Friday all day, then a smaller group on Sunday morning. But this new fest is only open Friday evening, so we just did Sunday morning. Still, the vibes were similar, the beer was good and so was the company. The old Holiday Ale Fest became a favorite holiday tradition for me, so I was sad to see it go. Still this new one gives me hope! It was quite busy when we finally left.

The best Guinness I have ever had was in Antwerp in Belgium as it was direct from Dublin

It’s been pretty quite around these parts today.

Treating myself to a beer. I was good and didn’t drink during New Year’s.

This beer from Steamworks in Vancouver BC was kind of weird. Thick and borderline sour.
And it definitely tastes like carrot cake.
It was OK but doubt I’ll buy it again

A very quaffable old ale.

In case you can't read the script on the bottle, it's called "Ardent Rastard." The name for the usual form of this beer is "Bat Rastard," a play on "rat bastard" in keeping with their practice of referring to bats in their beers (Mexican Freetail bats are plentiful around here).

I do like an old ale, barrel aged with figs makes it sound wonderful.
see your reflection on the bottle, should have used your other hand to go horns up to match the bottle. ;-)
