Finally got a chance to hear all four surround mixes and have to say I think it sounds great. I appreciate that both albums retain their original feel and mood (of a 70's Rock album), even when split into multi-channels. No, it is not a surround demonstration disc, but it really rocks and I am really glad I bought this one.
I have always been a Thin Lizzy fan and hope they re-mix some of the later albums into surround.

I'm voting 9 on this release, deducting 1 point for the simple visual of still pics of the band members that just repeats throughout. The Howard Jones blu-rays with excellent visuals to go with each song have spoiled me a bit on releases that aren't as adventurous as the HJ discs.

listening to this on my computer 5.1 so far as I have some works in progress in the living room.

Well, the albums are so great that I can't be objective.

They never were the best sounding albums on the planet but I'm enjoying these new mixes so far. Even the little changes in the content like the sax in Running Back seem to be fitting perfectly.

Can't wait to have my other system working again to enjoy it as it should be.

Won't cast a vote yet but it will probably be around 7-8

Much like the previous Thin Lizzy album Vagabonds I find this release hard to quantify to a number. The remixs sound great, better than ever before even, more full and powerful without deviating too much from the originals. The mix on the other hand leaves something to be desired. It's not the worst, it's not the best, it's just in a kind of limbo. Some days I listen to these albums and go 'hell yeah, sounds awesome' and want to give it a 8-9, other days I'm like 'meh, wish it was better' and want to give it a 5-6. Today I feel like a 7, who knows how I'll feel tomorrow. Still glad to own it though, and two albums in one makes SDE cost more palatable.

Yes, this is my experience with the Thin Lizzy discs as well. My opinion re the mixes seems dependant upon my listening mood! Unlike some mixes that are mind-blowing each time I go back to them.

I've not owned a lot of Lizzy in the past (just Bad Reputation, the live album and a few singles), so I'm also enjoying discovering these albums properly.

These 2 albums are 10s for me to begin with but I will say I was completely underwhelmed with the 5.1 mixes (I do not have Atmos). They were not discrete enough. There could have been so much more exciting activity in all 4 channels. I bought the 6 disc box and immediately sold after ripping the CDs listening to the Blu-Ray only 2 times. I'd never listen to the 5.1 again.

I give it a 5.

I will probably go with a 6 because they do sound better than ever; it is just that the surround mix is pedestrian.

As far as listening in 5.1 instead of ATMOS, you actually get the same experience. Just listen while looking at your ceiling and wishing there was sound from above. Ta da, you have now shared the same ATMOS as in my 7.1.4

How thin it sounds. I played the 5.1 - much better. Was the mixer putting it through a "quad" enhancer - much like the days when mono was stereoised. Poor effort.

First off, i have very little Thin Lizzy exposure. Growing up in the US I only ever heard the 2 hits from jailbreak over the airwaves. Never owned a single title till now. So the first thing I have to say is this music kicks ass. Wow this stuff is good. All you UK guys apparently knew this as I assume they got more exposure in the UK.

I listened to all the Atmos tracks, and i compared some of the 5.1 on Jailbreak so far. My system is 5.1.4. My thoughts so far...

I sometimes wondered if the bass presentation was better on the 5.1.
The bass went shopping. The 5.1 is better. The Youtube version sounds better (as does the CD etc).
