With regard to music it's Dolby's use of dialnorm that doesn't do them any favours, along with the relatively low (but DVD spec compliant) 448 bitrate. That being said, this bitrate can actually be increased to the Blu-ray spec compliant bitrate of 640 without any hardware player having an issue!
 
seems they were definitely going for a particular sound on this one, some of it having a real edgy feel with some slight clipping on some channels; with a very nice mix of course. Be interested to hear what other think. I just need to dig deeper into the actual music/lyrics. 03 - When Summer Comes is a nice song... only a few songs in so far though(y)

LFE is a mess (on the tracks that have it). Delayed maybe 15-20ms and possibly inverted. I'm too old to keep trying to figure out how screwed up they are.
 
I haven't heard it yet (so much music, so little time), which I must do before deciding whether I want to buy it physically or not. Although I've liked all of his solo albums I know to date (I own three, two of them in surround), I've always had a hard time listening to any album that includes so many short tracks. It totally messes with my focus having to deal with many frequent pauses in the music between one song and the next - it feels like reading a book in which each chapter only lasts for one page or two. But that's just me.
 
Putting the DTS logo on the back of the packaging with no DTS stream to be found on the disc and offering a hi-res download soon after the release date feels like a borderline scam. Everyone who purchased a physical copy with the misleading packaging should have been offered a free download of the 5.1 tracks in DTS quality or higher by the artist. Emphasis to clarify that this has nothing to do with IAA, to whom many thanks for making this and lots of other surround hi-res titles available to purchase.

Kscope have long had a habit of using the DVD Audio logo on DVD Video product. Neil Wilkes used to try to tell them. It never made people request lossless from the artist though.

The artist owns the product. This IAA release was done with Kscope knowledge. It's supposed to be for your benefit guys - as we are the ones that actually appreciate a lossless product.

And there's no hint of a scam. This was purely my idea. So blame me for trying to do the right thing.

Sounds like you took it way too personally. I am not sure how you could possibly infer from my post that I was unhappy about the download becoming available.

I don't know who you are, but if you're separate from IAA and my thanks to IAA did not apply to you, thank you too for making the download happen. I am just a guy who bought a product that does not do what it says on the tin and know has the option to pay twice to get what I thought I was buying the first time around (or a slightly upgraded version of it).

There should have been full transparency that the DVD will include DD only, and enough foresight to arrange the download and at least announce at the time of the release that a hi-res version will be available. Poorly thought through by the artist and the label is all.

Misusing the DVD audio logo is one thing, but putting DD instead of DTS on the disc and saying "DVD contains [...] 5.1 24 bit surround audio." is a much bigger problem.

That’s cool. I appreciate the thanks. I was just highlighting the fact that the Kscope info has been erroneous for some time. The issue is not particularly about the release.

It was apparent for a while that the disc was going to go the cheaply authored DD way. This is not a big artist. But doing what we have done with IAA is a very affordable route with excellent remuneration levels for the artist.

Wins all round. We can continue to work on the labels to think this stuff through up front.

We have some work to do on InsideOut next.

In this instance it would be useful to know that the download is closer to the master than what's available on the DVD. Hence the need for accurate information on both the disc and the download!

As I may have mentioned before, the DVD could have been encoded/authored with 6 channel 48/16 LPCM audio and still have been spec compliant...
