Mute-tastic - in no particular order

1. DM Violator
2. DM Music For the Masses
3. DM Speak and Spell
4. DM Playing The Angel
5. Goldfrapp - Supernature

Easy innit?!

Hey I did not know about Supernature in 5.1
is it DD
Now I need to start looking

Supernature comes as a two disc set with an SACD and a DVD-V with DTS and DD. All bases covered. I picked mine up from cdwow for about $22 usd.

it's a domestic CD-DVD double disc release with both DD and DTS surround options. i think it's also available as an SACD import.

well, that's interesting. now i'm wondering if the one i have has an sacd in it too (haven't listened to the cd, just the dvd)- - or if there's a couple different versions out there.

Actually, now that you mention it - I seem to remember that it did finally get a domestic release. Mine came in an SACD box (the jewel box with the rounded corners) discs stacked.

btw, it's pretty good. I don't like all of the tracks, but a few are quite good. People into electronica will probably like it more than I. This is the one disc (well, the DD file rips) that I actually prefer to listen to on my computer speakers (Logitech Z-5500), the SACD on my main system is just a little too smooth. Turn up the sub on the comp. speakers added to the slight top end emphasis and it sounds more 'club authentic' :)

I also got mine from CD-WOW (the German version of the site). It seems that mine is the version specifically labelled for the German market, because the DVD has a German age rating (which is mandatory here for everything that has video content) and the video on the DVD is in Pal.

I listened to it again just now, and this is really a fun disc! Great 5.1 mix.
I attached the shots of the front and back cover...

Not sure about the Top 5 but you can add:

Groove Armada - Lovebox
Groove Armada - Vertigo
Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Rage Hard
Moloko - Statues
Bjork - Medulla & Vespertine (possibly a stretch for electronica?)
Jean Michel Jarre - Aero (DTS 5.1)

Cheers

Martin

I certainly would not call Moloko electronica. Bjork is closer but I wouldn't call her music electronica (although some of her songs would fit that genre).

I'm pretty much in agreement with Solaris' original list.

1. Todd Rundgren - Liars
2. LTJ Bukem - Planet Earth
3. Tipper - Surrounded
4. Art Of Noise - Daft
5. Goldfrapp - Supernature

While the only "true" electronica releases here are LTJ Bukem and Tipper - the others all have enough elements to qualify them.

This may sound out of left field, but Cell #5: Correctional Facilities from Myutopia is a real hoot.

1) Goldfrapp - Supernature
2) Paul Van Dyk - Reflections
3) Groove Armada -Lovebox
4) Moloko - Statues (perhaps not "dance/electronic" but completely electronics based)
5) Aero - Jean Michel Jarre (not high rez but 5.1 DTS)

@ DrMabuse,

Any suggestion how one may get hold of Paul van Dyk's SACD? I've been trying for months now using various channels but without success. It appears to be deleted.

By the way, I'm surprised not to see A Secret Wish here -- especially in your list.

Is it not considered electronica?

Hey!
The Paul van Dyk I got from Germany on the release date from Amazon.de - it was a very limited run I think. This album has different ownership all over the world. A friend of mine has tried to no avail as well. This looks like a REAL missed opportunity...
As for "A Secret Wish", I tried to keep my list to the traditional "electronica" category but if we were to "expand" our perceptions "ASW" would definitely be in my Top 5. Aaah - the joys of formats and categories! :D

Thanks, Dr Mabuse.

In fact I've tried amazon.de first as this seemed the most likely source for me. They indicated it was not available but I registered for getting a second-hand copy in case they got one. After three months still no luck though.

If you see it anywhere, please let me know!

I have both the domestic and import. The domestic release contains the ntsc dvd with additional material not found on the import plus the album in 5.1 dts+dd. The cd has the multi-channel/stereo emblem on it similar to other hybrids, but it is only a regular cd, although it contains a bonus track (Beautiful) thats a real killer, albeit stereo only.

As far as dj mixes, there is only 1 dedicated for 5.1 mix that has come out.

Richie Hawtin - DE9: Transitions

hopefully my next release will be #2!
