BT's This Binary Universe.

Yes it has videos for each track.......very LONG tracks btw......but they do not need to be watched to enjoy this space-age downtempo chill music. FYI: none of the samples there include the parts of the song where the drums finally come in - your sub WILL get a workout, trust me! I like this album a lot. Even my parents like many of the tracks.

FYI: stereo track is in 48kHz/24bit form. Sound quality of both tracks is very good, and with no boosted treble (to my ears anyway) and no noticeable compression problems. In fact the dynamic range on this disc is very wide in many spots, probably because elements of classical music are included. I don't own it yet but his other CD+dvd album, the soundtrack to the film Monster, is supposed to be very good also.

I haven't bought this next title yet, but am close to doing so because the music seems like some fun stuff to turn up loud during certain types of get togethers......and when cruising by myself :D:

Bad Boy Bill's Behind The Decks. A CD+dvd package with DD and DTS tracks - samples here.

This is really more like house music than electronica, but it does use a lot of electronic instruments :D Not any full reviews of the surround mix on that site but the few that have listened to it say its quite aggressive.

BTW: if anyone was wondering about all the different genres of electronica/house/downtempo/hip-hop starting back in the 1960s(!) to the present, this EXCELLENT site will help:

Ishkur's Guide To Electronic Music

Using an easy-to-navigate branching tree Flash animation system, hundreds of samples and informative/humorous text, it communicates loads of info about this set of music.

I have this one. It is hit and miss because the 5.1 is simulated. There are moments that are panned to the rear for effect. Mostly it sounds more like stereo through a really good Pro Logic processor.

Okay, I'll probably get flamed for this, but how about Alan Parsons - A Valid Path? Seems like electronica to me, and I love it.

I managed to get hold of the Paul van Dyk SACD! After a long wait, finally a copy turned up on Amazon.de. Unfortunately the seller only wanted to ship to Germany so I've to use a friend's address and consequently still haven't got my disc but that should happen any day now.

Glad to hear it Jens!
It was definitely worth the effort - a stellar album and a fantastic surround mix. It is my subwoofer calibration disc...

OMG, I have been really lucky finding the disc for a mere 30 Euro (roughly 40 US dollar) at Amazon.de

The site currently lists two offers -- one at EUR 149, the other at EUR 203.12!

Clearly there's a perception this disc is worth a lot. I remember once seeing this title doing $80 on ebay but this is getting out of hand.

It seems there are people willing to pay this price because they've already disappeard again. Amazon.fr has one now at EUR 201.87.

1. BT's 5.1 album is the first thing that came to mind when I saw this title.

2. THAT LINK IS AWESOME! I've been an electronic fan for over 13 years now, and I've NEVER found a site as great as this for explaining different subgenres! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!

I never realized that Goldfrapp's Supernature had been released as an actual, honest to god SACD outside of the US...

Has anyone compared it to the US DTS version? Is it worth the upgrade?

Hi!
I have both versions and I am partial to the SACD release. I have always liked SACD in general and I just feel the overall experience is better. The surround mix of course is identical but DTS pushes the bass a bit too much - IMHO.
Mute has also done the same thing with all of the Depeche Mode reissues which are SACD in the UK!

Groove Armada Vertigo is great fun, just picked it up from Amazon uk
anybody have the love box sacd

I'm keeping an eye out on ebay trying to get my hands on 'Lovebox'. I got outbid a month ago (at GBP 18 -- more than 36 dollars) and in the meantime make do with my SACD copies of 'Vertigo' and '(Goodbye Country) Hello Nightclub', which is fun too.

There's a copy of 'Goodbye Country Hello Nightclub' on ebay now but it's already doing over $44.

While still searching for Paul van Dyk SACD, I must make do with Paul van Dyk Global CD/DVD set which does have a DTS and DD 5.1 mix. The mix is ok but could have been better.
