A new book is coming!

Andy Partridge and Todd Bernhardt - Complicated Game - Inside The Songs Of XTC (book preorder)

It might not appeal to those who already have the excellent Song Stories or the definitive bio, Chalkhills and Children, but for this fanboy it's must buy as I'm sure it will have new stories and insights. Shipping to US is currently $16 (yikes). I'll contact BS about cheaper alternatives.

Developed from a series of interviews conducted over many months, Complicated Game details Andy Partridge songs from throughout XTC's career and provides a unique insight into the work of one of Britain's most original and influential songwriters.
Filled with anecdotes about Partridge, his XTC bandmates, and the band's adventures around the world (all told with AP's legendary humour), Complicated Game casts new light on the writing of lyrics, the construction of melodies and arrangements, the process of recording, and the workings of the music industry.
The book includes pages from Partridge's songwriting notebooks, reproductions of his original artwork designs, a guide to Andy Partridge's Swindon and a foreword by Steven Wilson.
Pre-order for 31st March release. All pre-orders sold through Burning Shed/APE come signed by Andy Partridge.

When someone tweeted to Andy Partridge recently about how good the remix of "Oranges & Lemons" sounded, his reply:

I've heard the next one too…WOW!!!

Oh goodness, the suspense is killing me! My order of preference for what I hope the next remix is:
1) "Black Sea" 2) "Skylarking" 3) "English Settlement" 4) "The Big Express" 5) "Mummer"

Latest tweet from Andy Partridge continues to hype the next (and still unknown) 5.1 surround release from XTC:

Been busy with Stu Rowe looking at out takes for next XTC surround release.Hmmm, you lucky people.More soon.

:)

My money is on waspinstralvenusapplestar whatever it is my money is waiting.
Andy please take my money !!

With the exception of the first two albums ("White Music" and "Go 2") the last two albums ("Apple Venus" and "Wasp Star") probably hold the least amount of interest for me. It's those 80s albums that really make my mouth water, so if it happens to be one of those remaining 5 ("Black Sea", "English Settlement", "Mummer", "The Big Express" or "Skylarking") I'll hand over my money as fast as possible! :)

I love the first two XTC albums (White Music and Go 2) and while I'd love to see some deluxe treatment for them it'd be for any demos and/or live stuff from that era - not the best of the band when it comes to 5.1 as the studio stuff has that "recorded live in the studio feel" that should;t be lost....I'd love to be proven wrong of course. I was so lucky to see them in the Barry Andrews era....adored those shows and have great memories.

I'm guessing the next is English Settlement and that tapes were found...that'd be great...but Mummer would be my dream as I've loved that album from day one (and at a time where I'd lost much more than casual interest in the band).

My preference between those two would definitely be towards "English Settlement", but both would be amazing, no doubt.
According to Andy (on Twitter) "Mummer" happens to be Steven Wilson's favorite out of all of the XTC albums, so I'm certain he's just itching for them to find the tapes to that one so he can have at it and create a surround sound masterpiece, just as he's done for the three released so far. :)

Skylarking would be nice but given the Corrected Polarity version that came out recently which has certainly been a revelation, I'd prefer one of the other albums to come out first like say English Settlement or Black Sea. But if Skylarking does come next, I'll take whatever they decide. :)

OK RT, here's my speculation based on my highly suspect memory.
English Settlement has been referred to as the one that had tough to locate multi-tracks.
AFAIR, Black Sea was not mentioned in that context.
The posts by SW & AP refer to having recently found "lost tapes".
To my mind those are the English Settlement tapes.
The recent AP posts above indicate he's heard the "next one" already so to me that rules out English Settlement as the next release.
My prediction for the next release is Black Sea.

Dear God, I didn't know there was more XTC in the pipeline already!!

I'm inclined to think it's Apple Venus and/or Wasp Star, since those tapes would be most likely to be available. But if "lost tapes" have been found... Yikes.

Two things are certain:

1. Andy definitely knows how to build up the suspense! Bit of the salesman in that lad.
2. Whatever it turns out to be, I'm already queuing up with the rest of you lot, cash in hand!

Hey if it is "Black Sea", I would totally love that. I want another older album to be remixed and reissued next since we have already had two XTC albums from the latter era remixed and reissued, but I'll gladly take any of the 80s albums next. They are all truly amazing in their own unique and respective ways. :)

Ahhhhhh but wouldn't it be great if Andy threw us a curve ball and did a Dukes of Stratosphear 5.1 release. AWESOME!!!
