I am absolutely gutted that there will be no DVD-A release. Literally the only reason I hang on to my Acura is my love for the ELS 5.1 DVD-A Surround system. I have bought every Yes and XTC reissue in both Blu-ray AND DVD-A formats, one for home, one for car. And while I do understand the financial constraints, I'm hoping they will reconsider.

I am truly crushed, as I was counting the days until I could drive around enjoying Oranges and Lemons in 5.1.

I'm even more gutted. My wife finally got a Mercedes with a DVD that 'supposed 'included' DVD-A
This year some bright prick decided we don't need DVD-A in cars anymore and Mercedes no longer offer that function! I can still play 'some' DVD-V in 5.1

OK, I got an answer as to why they are dropping the DVD-A editions, and it's simply because they don't sell as much as the Blu-Ray ones.
They sell less and less, and with no more than 1000 copies moved, it is not worth the cost... :(

I had figured that was why they were dropping DVD-A, but it's still a lame excuse IMO. Plus I bet there probably isn't a useful way to change Andy's mind about this.
Now I'm curious to know what the sales figures are for the Yes DVD-A releases vs the Blu-Ray releases.
They must feel that sales have been good enough to continue releasing on both formats for "Fragile".

Well maybe if they drop the price...the dvd version of Drums they are asking for double the amount of the Bluray on burning shed whaaaaa

On the Burning Shed site I visit I see the dvda of Drums&Wires for €18,35 and the bda of Drums&Wires and Oranges&Lemons for €22,60 each. Where do you see that the dvda is twice the amount of the bda?

What are you talking about?
The prices for the DVD-As and Blu-Rays for both "Nonsuch" and "Drums & Wires" are the same:
$16.90 for the DVD-As and $20.80 for the Blu-Rays

That's how it should be as the Blu-Rays have more content and are more expensive to author and replicate.

Edit: Robert beat me to this point, but this post is still relevant for US pricing.

Also I tweeted @Andy that many of us still want DVDA for our surround equipped cars since Blu-Ray hasn't made it to that point yet, but I doubt that's the kind of reasoning that would sway his mind...

I swear to Snood....last night Snood checked and even looked twice and the price was double.

Can't find it now....maybe too much Snood juice. Urgh

Umm never mind....Snood was looking at price above rather than below...So when you view it THE SNOOD way it makes sense in Snoodville......buuuut if you look the proper way it makes Snood look the fool

Was thinking dam 10 dollar blurays... that freaking niiiice. URGH

Snood need sleeeep:rolleyes:

Thanks for finding that out.
It does make sense if people only want one copy and their player can do both then the Bluray is a no brainer as it has way more content.
I bet if Bluray was not a option the cd\dvda's would sell well as we see with the sales of the King Crimson cd\dvda's as they don't do a cd\bluray and as you get only a dvda choice people are buying them.
Oh well, glad we are at least getting the Yes still in cd\dvda.

I for one would pay a premium for DVD-A. I wonder if they would consider pressing a "no-frills" DVD-A without packaging, as an add-on the the Blu-ray. Even on recordable media (DVD-R) rather than a pressed disc. I'm THAT desperate!

One other thing I will say though is that at least we still get Blu-Ray, which is a great High-Res format.
This is much better than when Jethro Tull dropped Blu-Ray completely for only DVD-V. I still wait for them to bring it back, and we're now 5 reissues on from "Aqualung"…

Andy seems pretty emphatic about not releasing "Oranges & Lemons" on DVD-A.

When I sent him a tweet about not being able to play Blu-Rays in surround-equipped cars, he said in response that not enough people were buying the DVD-As, and they were losing money on them.
It's tough to argue that point, unfortunately… :(

Something of interest from Andy's Twitter today:

ORANGES original mix bright/brittle sound was not due to "Andy's continual attempts to co-produce",as i've just read. As I wasn't there for the vast majority of the mix.Back in UK fighting original manager/court case.

At least he's been able to get the mix to sound the way it should now. :)

I guess he did not have time to listen to a test pressing of the original 80's CD mix/mastering. Or at the time, to him, it sounded fine, poppy, up'ppedy and zippy!!!

Has anyone involved stated what the hell they were thinking when this album was EQ'd so toppy?
