Just arrived today, Big Head Todd & The Monsters-Crimes of Passion. This is a Silverline release. I could not find it listed in the polls. I was curious what folks thought of it. I've been picking up some cheap discs lately than I never bothered to buy when they came out. I heard a cut from this album on a crappy Silverline "Blues" sampler. I'm not even sure the members of this band would consider themselves blues, but I really like their music, so I went ahead and ordered their surround disc. I'm just listening through now. So, far I've really liked 5 of the first 6 cuts. I prefer their slower stuff the best. Seems to have a decent surround mix for a Silverline title. The music is pretty much what I'd classify as alternative rock, but in reading online reviews for the regular release they are categorized as blues-rock. Really happy with the disc so far and definitely worth the cheap price I paid which was around $8 or $9. If you like their style of music I would recommend the disc.

I recently found this brand new cheap from an Amazon seller. Saw them live a couple years ago opening for john Hiatt. I recognized at least 2-3 tracks as from this album. Good music and the surround mix does have it's moments. Better than its Silverline lineage would indicate.

Tim, what did you get as I don't see the title unless I am missing something.

THink he got this Big Head Todd & The Monsters-Crimes of Passion.

Listened to this one a couple of times now and I love it. My favorite tunes are Imaginary Ships and Angela Dangerlove. But the whole album is good.

Had a nice haul today at a used bookstore in my area. Not stuff that I'm super interested in but for the price it was not a bad way to add to my collection. I got Dave Koz's The Dance, DTS Entertainment's Handel's Messiah, Faith Hill's Cry, and Reanimation from Linkin Park all for $15.50. So 4 DVD-Audios for the original price of one of them. The also had one's I already posses like Fleetwood Mac's Rumours but that was about $30.

Got a Ryan Adams dvd-audio today at the local FYE. Half price, $6. Has some scratches but has played fine so far.
I noticed they sold both of the Hotel California dvd-audio disks that they had. Those would have been $20. I think they both went before the sale started but not sure.

The Dave Koz is a nice mix, bit bright-sounding IIRC and the muzak's an acquired taste but from a surround p.o.v., it's pretty decent. $30 for Rumours.. almost worth grabbing for a future trade maybe?

Gold or Rock 'n Roll?

I really wish Easy Tiger by Ryan Adams would've been released on DVD-Audio/SACD.

This is becoming one of my favorite releases I've listened to in a long time. For me personally, I love the music and it's a decent surround sound mix. And you can pick it up for nothing. It's now selling new on Amazon for 94 cents! Can't really go wrong at that price. http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0002BO1BQ/ref=sr_1_1_np_1_main_olp?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1393190128&sr=1-1&condition=new

I found this review at http://www.avrev.com/music-disc-reviews/dvd-audio/big-head-todd-the-monsters-crimes-of-passion.html...

"The one big problem I had with this DVD-A is the Advance Resolution 5.1 Surround. While listening to this disc, I was noticed that the mix was real muddy. The drums were lost in the mix and the low-end bass was basically lifeless. Once I switched to the Dolby Digital 5.1, the album came to life. If Advanced Resolution 5.1 is a new mix format for DVD-A, I would recommend they find a way to get the low end to be heard."

Just wondering what your reaction to that review might be.
