Well it's not the same song they use on the show....different recording...sounds ok I guess.

Hello U2,

A, B it with the stereo version on the disc. It is a dramatic difference to my ears that turns an ok song into a virtual reality experience. The clinging glassware in the intro takes me back to my days of working in the nightclubs. To my ears they created the essence of this song being performed live in a Jazz/Blues club and with the listener seated on the stage in the middle of the band. I love it, but guessing by your comment you weren't so impressed. Oh well, one man's toothpick is another man's splinter;).

Which release is this? I wouldn't mind checking it out.

I often use Issac Hayes "Theme From Shaft"

The detail and layering of horns etc is amazing.

Another is "Oh Yeah" from Los Lobos This Time SACD

It's a good remake but not the original artist or song

I don't think either of these SACDs were released in surround. Am I wrong?

Ooooops.....you're right

Not sure what I was thinking @:

I do most of my demos for friends on my bigger system which is 2 channel only.

For surround, almost anything by Porcupine Tree. I'm kind of partial to the Deadwing DVD-A.

One of my favorite songs for demonstration is Sing a Song from the Earth, Wind & Fire Gratitude disc. Most of the album is live but this song and a couple others are studio recordings. Not a flashy recording with sounds bouncing around but very clean and amazing sound when turned up.

Tough choice, ask me again in a month and I'll likely have a different answer. Currently it would be Where to Now St. Peter from TWC. Beautiful vocal by EJ , immersive mix, astute lyrics and outstanding sound quality.

Drown With Me by Porcupine Tree, great song that quickly establishes the idea (and charm) of surround music. Sensible mix that people notice.

One I usually use that leaves mouths gaping open........From the Elton John Peachtree Road SACD....................They call her the cat

Speaking of the Elton John Surround Sound SACDs, there are a number of favorites here including Honky Cat from Honky Chateau.

Alison Krauss - New Favorite ....just hauntingly beautiful.

Dire Straits - Why Worry ....clean and simple with great depth.

The Cardigans - You're the Storm .... really a 4.1 surround mix but again has great dynamic range and clarity.

Snow Patrol - Run ....another melancholy song but sounds great in 5.1 hirez!

That one is a classic in 5.1 SACD Surround Sound. When it was played at the Southern California SACD Audition Room years ago there was stunned silence through the whole song from several music industry veterans. Wow.

Many of my faves have already been named, so to add one to those who have come here looking for good options, I can recommend "Blue Sky" by the Allman Brothers from Eat A Peach. Many people will be familiar with the track, and I find this helps when introducing new people to surround. Plus it is a great song with a great mix!

See you around!
