I remember playing my parents vinyl of Jimi's "Smash Hits" in my bedroom and thinking it sounded otherworldly. I was about 5 or 6, maybe 1980. Thankfully I grew up in a house that played a lot of music and most of it good. Jimi still managed to stand head and shoulders above the rest. He still does, if I'm being honest. lol
Awh, my man Jimi!

1969 or 70, me and my girlfriend at a drive-in movie theater, in the backseat of a 65 Mustang. Front seats folded forward, with her laying on the back of the seat.
Purple Haze blaring on the 8 Track and me getting busy😁
😂GREAT MEMORIES 😂
Yes, Jimi has a dear place in my heart

Now days, I couldn't climb into the backseat of a 65 Mustang, much less do gymnastics

When I was fiddling around as an unpaid DJ in college, “Lies” by the Castaways was heavy on my rotation list. Serious drums!
Edit - it was the Knickerbockers. The Castaways did "Liar Liar."

Later, “In-a-gadda-da-vida” was making the rounds on AFN Frankfurt. More serious drums. Then the drums on “Get Ready” (long album cut) by Rare Earth.

man, your story sounds familiar ;)

"out in the back seat of my '60 chevy
workin' on mysteries without any clues
workin' on our night moves
tryin' to make some
front page drive in news
workin' on our night moves

in the summertime
in the sweet
summertime"

working on mysteries.... Oh I thought I knew....check
night moves....double check
summertime.....check

I even remember the movie.....Vanishing Point

Next day, I head out to The Shoppe in Berea and grab the album. To this day, one of my all-time favorites. All killer with one song of filler.
I loved going to the Shoppe in Berea. Heard it changed hands and relocated a few blocks North on Front Street to a less sprawling place last year. Certainly a go-to place for music, rock t-shirts and "paraphernalia". It was basically two or three residential houses that were frankensteined together over the years.

Did you ever go to the short lived "Repeat The Beat" records in Biddulph Plaza kind of sandwiched between Brooklyn and Parma?

I always figured you to be a “Johnny Mathis” kind of guy in that department! Did you followup Purple Haze with Wild Thing?

I saw Vanishing Point back then too. A few years ago it came out on bluray and I bought a copy.
So the girl on the motorcycle or that engine....which drew your attention?
Getting laid was ontop of the "things to do" list. It was more of a get together place for all the street racers in town.
Drive in's were the place to be on a Saturday night for broke ass kids.
Get a quickie, then she could vibe with her friends and then the boys could swap lies and setup races
Different times

Mountain - Mississippi Queen (Official Music Video)😃

Oh, the memories. Riding around/cruising through the Hardee's parking lot, etc. along with fellow high schoolers with this blasting on the 8-track in my mom's green '68(?) 6 cylinder 3 speed manual Mustang. Thanks for causing that synapse to fire!
