Alright, I have been doing this for the past few years as it's always interesting to go back a year later and see what predictions/wishes came true, as well as to reflect on what didn't along with all of the unexpected surprises.

So here it goes, my own predictions/wishes for surround releases in 2015:

1. YES. So far we have surround remixes of "Close to the Edge", "The Yes Album", and "Relayer" out from Panegyric. There has no been indication so far that "Going for the One" will be remixed, so my feeling is that "Tales from Topographic Oceans" and "Fragile" are the most likely Yes albums to be released in surround next year with one in the Spring and the other in the Fall, but I wouldn't mind them calling an audible and replacing "Fragile" with "Going for the One".
2. XTC. Assuming all goes well with the tape transfer, we should be getting a 5.1 surround mix of "Oranges & Lemons" next year. After that, no other full album tapes have been located so we must continue to be patient and let the search continue...
3. GENTLE GIANT. Looks like after the commercial and critical success of the surround mix of "The Power and the Glory", the Shulman Brothers have indicated that there should be more remixes to come. I would expect "Octopus" to be the most likely release, followed by "In A Glass House". Wouldn't it be great to get the former in the spring, followed by the latter in the fall? We shall see!
4. TEARS FOR FEARS. After the reissues of "The Hurting" and "Songs from the Big Chair", I'm predicting we will see some kind of Super Deluxe Edition of "The Seeds of Love" available next fall with remixes from Steven Wilson. After that, hard to say, whether or not "The Hurting" will be remixed or any of the TFF solo (Roland-only) albums.
5. KING CRIMSON. After the release of "Larks' Tongues in Aspic", the King Crimson 40th anniversary series has become rather stagnant with the exception of these gigantic box sets (the last two containing previously released surround mixes). Let's hope they really get back on track next year and release those surround mixes for "Beat", "Three of a Perfect Pair", and "THRAK" that have been worked on.
6. JETHRO TULL. Now that we know that there has already been a little bit of work that's been started on material for a 40th anniversary reissue of "Minstrel in the Gallery", I'd expect this to come out with a 5.1 surround mix next fall at the latest.
7. ROXY MUSIC. Well looks like we are at least getting reissues of the first two albums "Roxy Music" and "For Your Pleasure" as deluxe reissues next year. Both of these should contain surround remixes from Steven Wilson. It's very important that when these reissues come out that they are purchased by all of us! This will encourage UMe to release more Roxy Music surround mixes in the future! (including a reissue of the long out-of-print "Avalon" mix)
8. ELP. Will we finally get "Trilogy" in 2015?! Looks like it for now (Feb 2015 to be precise), but that of course can change.
9. That other 80s #1 album… Well I originally guessed "Songs from the Big Chair" and "Sparkle in the Rain" (Simple Minds) as the two 80s #1 albums so let's see if I get 2/2 on my predictions.
10. ROGER WATERS. There have been so many delays with the 5.1 SACD release of "Amused to Death" that I hope 2015 will finally be the year it gets released.

As for my predictions for 2014, we did get "The Yes Album" and "Relayer", along with "The Power and the Glory", "A Passion Play", "WarChild", and "Drums & Wires", but we did not get any new surround mixes from King Crimson, and all we got from ELP was "Brain Salad Surgery"…
Let's hope 2015 is even better than 2014, cause 2014 was pretty awesome! :)

I hope some of your predictions are correct - but I truly wish we would see many, many more...from some additionally important artists.....
THE CARS
STYX
ANY SABBATH FROM OZZY ERA
MORE ALICE COOPER
BOWIE
TOTO
BEE GEES
MICHAEL JACKSON
On and on and on...

If Gentle Giant - Octopus happens next year to the same quality as The Power and the Glory I'll be able to die a happy man ....

Hopefully 2015 will be as good or even better than 2014... One can only wish..My predictions/want list:

  • The Cure - Seventeen Seconds
  • Brian Eno -Before and After Science
  • Steely Dan - Audio Fidelity - please give us anything you can get your hands on - either old quad or new Elliot Mixes.... :)

Also what vintage quad & unreleased Elliot Scheiner mixes will we be getting from Audio Fidelity????

@GOS - I'm hoping/guessing that at least one one of your artists will see their catalog done in surround....:)

Steven Wilson is a HUGE fan of both The Cure and Brian Eno, so maybe one day we will get both of those and more! :)

more GLAM, sure hope Roxy Music sparks a trend

Joe's Garage would be sweet too.............. Gail/Dweezil, let it be

Steven has expressed a desire to mix Kate Bush in 5.1. I have been dreaming of "Hounds of Love" in 5.1 for years. Could 2015 be the year for this dream to come true?

1. Warner to get back in the game and start releasing Blu-ray Pure Audio discs with all the vault stored mixes that were done back in the DVD-Audio days but never released like Fleetwood Mac's first album and Tusk.
2. Sony to get in the game and release that list of Blu-ray Pure Audio discs that was teased earlier this year.
3. Island Records to release the SACD of the Killers Hot Fuss album that they teased back in 2004.
4. More Brit rock and synthpop from the 80s like the Cure and The Smiths to come out in some 5.1 format.

At the top of my wish list:

A re-release (on lossless support) of Derek and the dominos' Layla surround mix by Elliot Scheiner.

And new surround and stereo remixes of:

Jon Anderson' Olias of Sunhillow
Marillion (the Fish era)
Magma (the whole discography, but start with MDK !)
Ange (the seventies albums)

Like The Cure, Steven Wilson is a HUGE fan of The Smiths as well, so maybe one day there will be enough desire on the part of the record companies to get a remix campaign to happen. :)

Forgot to add my top of the top wish : NO MORE surround releases exclusive to big expensive boxes ! Thank you very much.

Nice list! Oh yeah...Radiohead! I would prefer Metallica's first 2 albums. And/or Ozzy's first 2 albums with Randy Rhoads. Another Megadeth would be welcomed...Rust in Peace. I just love the Peace Sells DVDA. What a rush! Of course some Slayer would also be most welcomed. And let's not forget Judas Priest!

Just for fun... How about Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables? :smack:

Definitely agree with this but I think sadly this is how record companies are going to see a viability to doing a 5.1 remix. I was thinking what would be the genesis for older albums getting redone and then it hit me, 30th Anniversary editions like the Bob Marley Legend 30th Anniversary edition that Bob Clearmountain remixed. So with that in mind, here are notable albums from 1985 that I'd love to see get the same 30th Anniversary treatment in 2015:

1. The Smiths- Meat is Murder
2. The Cure- The Head on the Door
3. New Order-New Life
4. The Cult- Love
5. INXS- Listen Like Thieves
6. Psychocandy-The Jesus and Mary Chain
7. Prince and the New Revolution-Around the World in a Day

One has to be realistic here. NO CHANCE of Thriller(seek the upmix; it is great). MJ did not want it to be done in 5.1 in the first place.

Gentle Giant Octupus
Opeth (unreleased SW mix)
Metallica Master of puppets(possible if somebody asks them and they say yes, no major label approval needed).

JG upmix floating around; very good indeed.

Dweezil claims they is no market for 5.1, yet if he let AF licence his dad's music it would cost him and family NOTHING, so there is no risk, just do it for the fun, Frank would not care as he told the family to sell the catalog anyway.

However, with MJ out of the picture, that may not matter. I wonder who is making release decisions for his catalogue... For those with a Surround Master, run Thriller through it - pretty darn good!

I'd like to hear some Abba in 5.1, Sigur Ros "Takk...", and Tears for Fears "The Hurting" - DVD-A is fine for me. The Hurting could be bundled with a CD so they can issue the recent remastering without the glitch in the Opiates track.

I wouldn't rule out Thriller...what MJ wanted is a moot point now...the people who have control of his affairs don't seem to be worried about things like what he wanted..Thriller was listed to be released on Sony Blu Ray Audio. HERE..so it's not a huge stretch to think it "could" be a surround mix...
