The album features the trio of Angelo Verploegen (Flugelhorn), Ed Verhoeff (Guitar) and Eric Van Der Westen (Double Bass) performing classics from Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, Billy Strayhorn, Irving Berlin, Enrico Rava, Wayne Shorter, Jackie McLean, Spencer Williams, and Duke Ellington.

This new album was recorded live to DSD 256 with no mixing, no editing, no compression, no post-production using the Merging Technologies Horus Analog to DSD 256 Converter and Pyramix Software. It is played in one take to bring you the purest sound possible. This is a DSD Exclusive, Not on SACD release. Angelo Verploegen says "Over the last decade or so I find myself leaving the tempting and obvious juvenile trumpeting bravura more and more behind me and returning to my musical starting point: the flugelhorn. Although generally the instrument is considered to be a trumpet with a ’softer’ sound, and in my opinion all too often treated like that by many trumpeters, the flugelhorn actually stands firmly by itself with all of its own characteristics and specifications.

Literally being brought up with the flugelhorn, I feel at ease with the way the horn requires its own approach of phrasing and articulation. This enables me to reach the level of lyricism and intimacy I’m looking for in my playing.

For the repertoire, I simply picked standards that I grew fond of over the years. Looking for a certain degree of variety in melody, harmony, formal structure, keeping the drum-less trio sound in mind, allowing it to flourish, creating a casual, lush and intimate atmosphere. My favorite tunes with my favorite musicians."

sorry to go OT but it is related as a kinda footnote to my last post of ramblings (and so i wasn't propagating a myth here about those "dark days of surround music"!) i checked over Marek's year by year lists of surround releases and the results were quite interesting.. now i'm not statto the statistician and its not exactly a hugely upward trend but definitely we've been seeing a good few more new releases the last few years! bring it on record labels! our wallets are waiting!

2009 = 54

2010 = 39

2011 = 49

2012 = 46

2013 = 45

2014 = 49

2015 = 72

2016 = 107

2017 = 106

2018 = 99

Mr. Statto Blue, did you take into account that the Dutton Vocalion two~fers SHOULD each count as two separate discs.......A Ha!

IMO, a nice task when the lights are low and the bustle of London Town reaches a quiet lull!

All in all, 2018 was a banner year for quality multichannel releases.....both in quality and quantity. The true fruit of QQ forum bloomed......silvery polycarbonate apples in channels of every persuasion .... 4, 5.1 7.1 Atmos, Auro 3D......and some of the images were in 3D.

With 2019 looming, PF's Animals, Tears for Fears' Seeds of Love, and I sense a few 'shockers' from that Wizard in Watford.........and that's only the beginning.

That's right, but I just felt it unfortunately doesn't offer enough surround-wise. Certainly not up to the Rob Reed/Magenta standards - last year's Sanctuary live was excellent!
Anyway, if the consensus here is that it should be on the list, I'll put it there. The same goes for Ayreon Universe - The Best of Ayreon Live and possibly other live titles.
