i guess they could've used a script rather than a hardware decoder (or "that bloody box" as one former member would've put it!) to maybe try to more closely replicate the master.. if the Involve Surround Master is indeed what was used on this occasion as it was on the Airto disc.. but they did what they did how they did it, you can't please all of the people all of the time.

i don't see other labels falling over themselves to disclose details as to what they do and why but maybe it's worthwhile writing to the label?

they don't appear to have a profile here but from what i gather they do respond to email enquiries.
Might SteelyDave be able to find out and report back?

But as it is "we" who are paying for the product they should be straight when releasing material that has been decoded via whatever method. I for one would not pay for an SACD with decoded material on it

I wouldn't accuse D-V of not being "straight" with its customers. The web page for this item reads:
N.B. This reissue includes both the original stereo and discrete quadraphonic mixes. Additionally, the SACD multi-channel layer includes the original SQ-decoded quadraphonic mix [tracks 8-14]. The original discrete quadraphonic master no longer exists; therefore, the best available discrete quadraphonic sources have been used.
True, they could be a little more forthcoming about what exactly the "best available discrete quadraphonic sources" were, but based on the recent example of Herbie Hancock's Sextant, I would guess we're talking about a quad safety reel or a duplicating master. And true, they could also confirm whether the bonus SQ decode--and let's remember that it's a bonus, not a substitute for the discrete mix--is, as one might presume, decoded from a matrixed master tape.

Perhaps that information is specified in the liner notes (and I wouldn't be surprised if Simon or whoever looks after the website would respond favorably to a polite suggestion to include it on the web page). But even if it's not, I'm not gonna get all shirty about it. Michael Dutton's track record is impeccable, and it's not like he's trying to pull a fast one on us. On the contrary: he's giving us a huge bang for our buck--er, twelve quid.

Received my 6 SACDs in the mail today. No cracked cases(GOS’ law LOL). Ripped them all to ISO and DSD(stereo and quad where indicated). Won’t get to listen tomorrow as it’s the last day of the regular football season here in the States. Although I have more than enough surround music to keep me occupied, I still anxiously await news of the next batch of DV releases. What can I say? Mr. Dutton has us all a bit spoiled. Funny how other labels release albums one at a time while DV releases albums in batches.

I lived in Burlingame & San Carlos 1980 - 1995. All those great 49er years !!!
That's awesome, those where the years. I was a season ticket holder at Candlestick from 1979-2005 and now my second year as a season ticket holder at Levi's, yes, I jumped very fast on the Jimmy G. bandwagon, haven't been disappointed yet.

Playoffs should be awesome this January especially with so many great teams in the mix. Not having a local team with skin in the game, all I can ask for is as many nail biters as possible...and playing the new DV stock in between weekends. :QQlove

Here in New England the evil empire is having a seriously subpar year. No one expects them to go far in the playoffs(though we also thought the same last year). I was always one of those guys who said that they were fools to trade Jimmy G. The only knock against Jimmy G was that he didn't appear to be durable. So much for that criticism. He's the real deal and then some. The future looks bright for NFL QB's, what with Jackson, Garrapolo, and Mahomes. And the Jets are looking to be formidable opponents in 2020. The AFC East has finally gotten competitive. For the Giants the post-Eli Daniel Jones era is also about to begin. Should be fun to watch.

Just received 5 of the new releases from DV today via registered mail. I've only had time to listen to Booger Bear/ Buddy Miles/Santana Live, and it's a winner for me. I had not heard either of these releases before. For me, both are great musically, sonically and surroundically (?). The Live CD is what I was hoping for with the Lotus release (it was a huge disappointment at the time, but I've come to really like the live concert even though it's mostly just stereo to me). Next up... Argent.

I waded through ALL of the D~V December '19 releases and am happy to report everyone's a WINNER. Even Booger Bear which I had sampled in MP3 format [horrid] on Amazon was a complete surprise. Argent was new to me as in the 70's I was a disco bum and danced the 70's away while probaby being the the best shape of my life.

But least I digress, Michael Dutton has indeed rung in the holiday season with a most worthy batch of gems from the RCA/COLUMBIA/CTI QUAD vaults and the added and might I add elegant EPOCH mch SACD of Edward Elgar's The Spanish Lady, Organ Sonata, Severn Suite and Three Civic fanfares, gloriously conducted by Martin Yates and the Scottish National Orchestra were perhaps the best Christmas Gifts this music lover could've ever hoped for.

That is until Michael's 'imminent' batch of R&B/SOUL/FUNK QUAD SACDs rears it's prettiest of heads!
