I have the original SQ ENCODE on cassette .And yes this is a good concert as is the MATRIX HJ quad concert from July 78.Phil's in between banter and humour is worth while listening to.The performance is stellar in both concerts.

I guess they were considered for the live box, and movie box sets, but alas were not accepted.,, Oh Well .

Also available as THE CARS-MOVING IN QUADIO, was a WXRT SQ QUAD broadcast. This collector has yet to find and obtain though.
Quad Bob has a copy of The Cars. He once offered me a reel to reel copy. Unfortunately I didn't take up on the offer. I wonder if Rhino has a copy of it.

Last week I was surfing the net for any quad fm programs.

Up popped a thread and posts for WQIV NYC , and they had some samples.

Well the intro to the Show's Initiation which had a song by ELO and The Velvet Underground wasn't too bad for a QS Synthesizer Encode , but if you listen to the little excerpts of 'the actual Show' you might be disappointed.
I was , and now I can see why it was so short lived.
Short is the operative word for WQIV . They played a variety of stereo ..
QS Synth tunes from some excellent artists ...but I thought I was listening to AM radio as every song was only a minute , maybe even less !

Now they did work with I think Electric Ladylands Studio in NYC for a few live quad broadcasts , hopefully they turned out much better .
If memory serves me well ..(and it don't always) they did a Quadcast Concert with The Guess Who , and maybe James Cotton ?

Fizzy, there are air checks of some of these quadcasts floating around on the web. Most aren't in the greatest quality. I've periodically asked some acquatainces in the NY recording scene about any possible remaining recordings of these broadcasts stashed away somewhere but so far no luck. Air checks you can find of QIV shows are Return to Forever, Alex Harvey, Rush, Guess Who, Larry Coryell and Eleventh House. A clean copy of the Alex Harvey show would be incredible.

Hopefully the Concert Quadcasts turned out much better.

When I listened to FM radio it was always album cuts , and sometimes a whole side. This clearly distinguished FM ... against AM radio.
But I suppose they did what they considered viable radio , back then.
You can also check out the BBC 'S Alan Freeman shows , again they are album cuts. Nothing mini about those tunes played.

I'm just surprised they played music to promote quad , in the manner which
they did.
Hopefully they WQIV , we're in the absolute minority.

In the late 1970s, Detroit's classical WQRS-FM 105.1 used to have a show at 10:00 PM on, I believe, Tuesdays and Thursdays, which would play quad LPs. The host was Gary Laehn. Can't recall the name of the show at the moment, though I remember they played Holst's Jupiter as the theme music. As new quad releases became scarcer, they switched over to half-speed mastered LPs and other similar audiophile recordings.

There are 14.1 % of radio stations now broadcasting in some form of Matrix Quadraphonic.

:)

Detroit was a good place to be for Quadcasting FM stations , as is indicated

I believe they also had a 24 hour quad station in QS, WWWW FM if I remember correctly.

1970 : Men In HiFi New York City ;

The earliest , and probably the very first FM Quadraphonic matrix broadcast , featured The 'Scheiber Matrix' system.
It was to be broadcast in mid 1970 , over New York's public FM broadcasting station , WNYC FM , as part of Harry Maynard's program Men In HIFI.
They set up receiving equipment and a Decoder for Scheiber Matrix at a local New York Hotel for this first Tested Scheiber Matrix Quadcast.

1970 pt 2 :

It not mentioned what the music program was that was broadcast.
However we do know , thanks to Thomas Mowery a part owner in Audio Data,
Peter Scheiber 's Company promoting his quad matrix , that Peter Scheiber was supplied with music from the CBS library mixed into quad by John McClure , head of CBS .
Music program for the Scheiber Matrix included tracks from Swan Lake ,
(Walter) Wendy Carlos Switched On Bach , and the song Mrs Robinson , by Simon And Garfunkel apart from other CBS music.
