As I recall for previous titles, there was a significant delay between the release of the deluxe boxsets and the stripped down blu-ray. In any case, I'm done with buying bloated boxsets, especially those with unwanted vinyl bundled in, just to get a surround mix. I'm willing to wait for as long as it takes to get a standalone BD, and if it doesn't happen I'll be skipping this release.

that retirement thing is on the near soon horizon for me. what has been free wheelin spending on physical media for years will now become strategic spending on physical media. and 150 plus dollar boxsets may not be purchased by me ( unless its a desert island / gotta have boxer )

and I seem to be spending a fair amount of dough on a barn ;)
.....those NFL mini helmets ain't cheap either🤓

Not sure what's repetitive about the vinyl, it's just the double 45rpm vinyl in the box - the other variants are just available bundled with the box set.
I guess you didn’t see the three, count them, three, super deluxe box sets, two of them with repetitive vinyl choices. There’s only one super deluxe box set with two LP’s spinning at 45rpm. The other two super deluxe box sets have three vinyl editions. The two LP 45rpm and two 33 1/3 albums on a single disc. WTF?? That’s just nuts, considering your able to buy the dirty tree and one turd revolution disc’s separately.

As I said, those are not box sets. They are bundles. Look at the description:
  • Pyramid (Super Deluxe Box Set) + LTD Edition Gold Nugget Vinyl + Clear Vinyl [Inc 12-Inch Sized Artprint Of The Pyramid Album Cover Signed By Alan Parsons, Ltd 500]

  • Pyramid Ultimate Bundle

  • Pyramid (2024 Remaster, Expanded Edition) CD + Clear Vinyl + LTD Edition Gold Nugget Vinyl

  • Pyramid (LTD Edition Gold Nugget Vinyl, Half Speed Remaster) + Pyramid (LTD Clear Vinyl, Half Speed Remaster)

I personally don't get the appeal, but the proliferation of differently coloured vinyl variants shows that there's a market for that stuff, aimed at collectors who need to have them all. And perhaps one way to make sense of it is due to the hit-and-miss quality of LPs these days, you can get two different pressings at the same time, and then decide which one you like better and sell the other one...?

There is only one box set.

I don't personally get the vinyl appeal either, but to each his own. I'm thinking the last single LP I bought was Bruce Hornsby The Way It Is (1986?)
Can't tell you the last time I fired up my TT. I don't really have room for it these days unless I stacked it on my stack of Oppo's.

I'll buy the deluxe vinyl + XXXXX sets in order to get the surround content, but typically only at a major discount. I see no reason to pay a premium for vinyl, given that I don't even have a turntable. I bought The Yes Album Super Deluxe set, but only when it dropped to $49.

Surround versions ONLY being part of sooper-dooper overpriced deluxe sets with vinyl is a trend that needs to go die in a fire.

Not usually going to buy with vinyl (although, yea, I too made an exception to the YES album "super deluxe" set). Can't
wait to hear the Atmos on that one! A long time ago I bought Bowie's STATION TO STATION with vinyl, but only
because it was -- and is -- the only way to get the 5.1, as bad as it is.

I regret not buying that Station to Station boxset when it came out. I didn't buy it because of the vinyl and price at the time but when I had a change of heart, they were gone. My only solace was that I heard the mix wasn't good. I hope the powers that be revisit it and remix it in Dolby Atmos & issue it as a stand alone Blu Ray like they are doing with Ziggy.

What’s a turntable? 😉

Shortly after the CD came out, and once I had accumulated most of my favorites LPs on CD (thanks Columbia House), I gave away most of my LPs to a friend. A few years later when I had everything I cared about on CD, I gave my TT to another friend.
I really have never looked back. I still think the CD was the best media for the masses ever created. Especially once you could burn your own compilations which had become important to me during the cassette era.
