AP, please do 'Pyramid' at some stage. One of my favourite albums of the 70's.

@Tony Banks: You don't post often enough, but when you do, your contribution is exceptionally placed. (y)

Pyramid is my personal favorite of his, but I would gladly buy ALL AP's classic recordings in surround.

I am glad that I am not alone in my favourite Alan Parsons LP is Pyramids. For years I thought I was alone. I discovered Pyramids in the school library around the time Def Leppard came out with Pyromania. AP became a desert Island Disc immediately. I still look under my bed to see the Pyramid that is there. I dare say that a lot of music has passed these ears and I still get a thrill when the needle settles into the grooves of Pyramid. I am awaiting a blue Scandahoovian copy from Discogs as I write.

why, is that considered one of the better pressings?

Its my favourite APP album too! It was the first one that I bought, and I loved it all, including the cover. Aah, the good old days of gatefold album covers! I still play it regularly. And, as Dennis Moore said above, I too would gladly buy ALL AP's classic recordings in surround.

@GOS - No, just a cool looking disc! It is rare and I wanted it. There is a less common orange pressing from Holland that seems to clash with the label in my opinion. I just am hoping for a click and pop free disc as that would harsh my mood!

Aside from the music itself, Pyramid has really great cover art done by Hypgnosis (same people who do most of the Pink Floyd covers). I display about 20 various framed LP covers and/or picture disks on the walls of my listening room. This is one of them.

Now, there's an album I'd buy a box set with scarves and marbles in just to hear it in surround!

It's a well known fact that pyramids, marbles and scarves do wonders to a Multichannel mix. Look what it did to the Quad mix of The Dark Side Of The Moon. ;)

I'm going to make a rare statement that actually defends the record companies(I'll hold my nose while I type)and this practice of including "junk" with these larger box sets...I remember back in 2009 when I was trying to decide which Beatles set I was going to buy...the mono or stereo..during that research period it was revealed that there was a massive counterfeit operation believed to be operating in the Philipines that was producing fake Beatle Box Sets...and they looked almost identical to the real set...only some slight variations in the color of the ink and a few other anomalies...they managed to get on amazon and were being sold...now think about the scale of operations it took to produce all those "sleeves" for each individual album within the box set...these weren't some college kids in a backroom..this took massive resources..

This brings me to the "junk" included in these expensive box sets...it simply makes it harder for criminals to replicate all these marbles...etc...and I'm sure it has discouraged many counterfeit jobs from happening..and I'm sure the bands involved hate this practice as it makes them look a little stupid...but there is a method behind the madness...

so, in plain words you just have admitted you're one, behind concept of big, junk filled box-set as a mean to protect against counterfeit and beneficial way to rob bank accounts of consumers?

Yep...I'm the mastermind..when I'm not making neighborhoods safe at night in my super hero costume I'm protecting the general public from itself...faster than a speeding bullet..more powerful than a locomotive....able to leap tall buildings in a single bound...and of course...forcing consumers to buy bloated box sets(y)..all in a day's work:banana:

I believe to be a mastermind you are required to have a secret superhero (or super-thug) name and a side kick (with suitable name, as well)...

Big Bloated Box Set Man is too long of a name and I'm not sure what the word "Bloated" modifies. So, I'm of no help.

I'm really looking forward to this..but I do hope that the 5.1 is based on the original mix not the later re-do with gated drums, extra guitars etc. And I say that even though I like the Orson Wells narration. My prefect release would have that as an option though..

A trip down memory lane... Pyramid is definitely my favorite APP album, as well. It was the 1st APP album my older brother introduced to me back in 1978. The same brother that took me to the Elton John Bicentennial (1976) concert at the old Schaefer Stadium in Foxborough, MA two years earlier (I was only 10 years old).
Guess who was the opening act before Dave Mason and then Elton John? John Miles! I think it was the EJ concert that got my brother to start buying the APP albums after he heard John Miles (Rebel). Miles provided background for quite a few APP tracks; Tales, Pyramid, Stereotomy and Gaudi. APP is now a staple in my collection thanks to my brother. Would love to hear all of those APP albums above in 5.1. Tales is a great start, but Pyramid would be amazing.

Alan Parsons is releasing a live blu ray in May. I wonder how discrete the mix will be:

Further details:

On the evening of August 31st, 2013, a large crowd gathered at the Parque Pies Descalzos in Medellín, Colombia. When Alan Parsons appeared on stage, along with the Medellín Philharmonic Orchestra and his band, the audience went wild. This is an audiovisual document of that incredible evening.

Now, to the great delight of his fans, for the first time on a live video and audio recording, The Alan Parsons Symphonic Project combines the talents of his amazing band with the lush sound of a 70-piece symphony orchestra, creating a very special show with unmatched quality. Together, they revitalize hits such as ‘Eye In The Sky’, ‘Don’t Answer Me’ and ‘Sirius’.

The APP band line-up consists of: Alan Parsons (acoustic guitar / keyboards / vocals), P.J. Olsson (lead vocals), Alastair Greene (guitar / vocals), Guy Erez (bass / vocals), Danny Thompson (drums / vocals), Tom Brooks (keyboards / vocals) and Todd Cooper (saxophone / guitar / percussion / vocals). Alejandro Posada conducts the Medellin Philharmonic Orchestra

‘Live In Colombia’ is released on 27th May 2016.
