Yeah!! Old album of mine...King Diamond was lead singer of Mercyful Fate in early 80’s...one of my prized metal albums from my youth...

I have vivid memories of buying these old metal albums...I was smitten with the genre...me and another dude bought into it. He had a new Toyota Corolla......yet he installed a killer audio system. He and I would buy any new metal albums, copy the vinyl to cassette and ride around a jam...smoke pot and just have a blast. Man, the memories. Mostly 1981-1985 or so.......we had such great times. We would smoke so much pot riding around......and just get stoned...lost and forget what time it was. Like me, he's a grown man now, with kids..........same age. Man....

Nice find, Gene.

First LP pressings came with a promo of Light the Sky on Fire stereo b/w mono. Here are pix/description: http://www.45cat.com/record/jh11426
I no longer have vinyl of Gold, but still have the free promo 45. Was the 45 in the package? 45's for sale and some 12" single promo versions had Light in stereo b/w Hyperdrive (from Dragonfly.)

The original LP's had a gold & red die cut cover. Both US CD pressings had paper colored yellow and red.

The first CD release from '91 had the single version of Miracles. I haven't played this one in years, but I also recall it and the original CD of Earth both being needle drops. Later Earth CD's aren't needle drops.

The '98 CD has non-single versions of all tracks. It is NOT a needle drop. Both it and the '91 CD have Light added as track 6, and Hyperdrive as track 12.

Woo hoo!! Another great one I just ripped!

Unfortunately, the album I bought did not have the 45, even though it should have. Whoever owned it before either lost if or whatever.....

To be honest, I historically wasn't that familiar with MOTT's older albums.....I bought a Rhino box set of their first 4 LP's a couple years ago. I enjoy them...and these rips are part of that box. You can really hear some influences in their sound..... Bob Dylan, Stones......Gospel.........good stuff really. Oh, and Ian sounds a hell of a lot like Rod Stewart IMO. Which is a good thing.

I remember seeing him in a small venue...a theater...he came out and sat down on a chair...and started right in with a song...no orchestra...nothing....he was awesome and the theater was so quiet you could hear a pin drop during his songs...he just took control of the audience....simple lyrics but a powerful song..
