I pretty much share the same impression on the new Lynne record. The drums could be more natural sounding though. Still, he's the defintive master of sophisticated orchestral pop.

The drums sound exactly like Jeff Lynne drums. It's his sound that he's cultivated for many decades, so I wouldn't expect anything else. It's a defining characteristic of his productions along with the defining sound of his guitars. It's who he is.

Where would we be without Jeff Lynne? To me, his footprint on music is huge. Such a soft spoken guy too...seems like a real gentleman.

From what I have seen and heard, the guy is clearly 100% talent and 0% ego, kinda the exact opposite of music stars of today like Justin Bieber and Kanye West… ;)

My wife is in Ohio, looking at antique shops. She bought me this...claims to be from 1938, but no clue if it's original or not. Either way, it looks cool. It's going as a conversation piece in my hi-fi room.

Wow, I'm actually figuring out some cool FOOBAR2000 stuff. Installed a foobar app that allows for Dynamic Range tracking.....and it works! Below I pasted the DR for a DSD download I've had for some time...

Eh...OK. So now I have just instilled a little lack of faith in the DR numbers. Just for fun, I plugged in my old Metallica CD - Ride The Lightning. I seriously always thought the disc sounded pretty much like hell. Here are the numbers....seriously? I figured they would be an average of 5 or something like that....what you all think?

Indeed! Though I believe there was more warmth in the drumming around pre New World Record. But still, this is a very good crafted record.

Whoa...when I first glanced at this I thought it was a film clip from the movie Inception...gotta love the gravity defying elements..

I've always liked Jeff and his music..especially with ELO.... but the one thing that bothers me is his avoidance of surround modes in his releases...even this latest blu ray concert didn't have any surround modes...that's why I didn't buy it...and it's an excellent concert..I have it recorded from the Palladia Channel...

Since I've been on a Fleetwood Mac binge lately I've been playing a lot of FM music and I noticed I couldn't find one of my CD's...so I ordered a replacement

This is possibly of no interest to anyone but me, but earlier this year I did some research and found out who Mrs Scarrott was.

It even got a small (anonymous) mention in Uncut's Ultimate Guide to Fleetwood Mac.

I'm no expert on any of this stuff but my personal opinion is there's more to great sound than just dynamic range, I think some get too hung up on it but like I say just imho.. obviously its ideal to have great DR but great source tapes carefully transferred, good mastering, a well-produced and engineered record in the first place, etc, all helps too..

I recorded it as well. And, good point. His lack of surround rather bothers me....

She was born in 1904 and died in 1984...maiden name was Hugget and was married 3 times....Aileen's last marriage was to Harry Scarrott in 1966..her poem Thoughts On A Grey Day appeared on the album and within that poem was the idea of the title Bare Trees...Danny Kirwan was fascinated with this poem and used it for inspiration for the Bare Trees Album...ironic that he would be fired shortly after the album was released...the album was very fun and upbeat...and Danny's 3 songs on that album(Bare Trees..Child of Mine..and Sunny Side Of Heaven)were very positive...obviously no drama like the later Rumours work...

DR isn't the ONLY element to a good sounding disc..BUT for guys like me who want to avoid that compressed sound it's an important indicator...but great DR won't help if the other elements are poor...and that's the case with many of the older rock recordings..

Yeah, the lack of surround for this latest concert film from Hyde Park was very shocking, especially given how many musicians were on stage playing the music and also since the Zoom DVD from about 15 years ago has an incredible surround mix on it. Extremely discrete, though it isn't as good of a performance as Hyde Park IMO.
Heck, even the older DVD releases from ELO (from the 1970s and early 1980s) have surround mixes on them. The mind truly baffles, though then again when it comes to surround, that's usually how it is...

Seriously! This damn QQ is dangerous to my billfold. With all the different members.....seems someone always knows about some disc, or some discount somewhere....I just can't stop buying music. But I love it!

This is such a wonderful place! You guys rock...

I'm sure the answer is yes...but hear me out. If I have an album that is in FLAC format....can I make a copy of that same album to another format...and still retain the FLAC version?? If so, how?

thanks QQ!!!
