I pretty much share the same impression on the new Lynne record. The drums could be more natural sounding though. Still, he's the defintive master of sophisticated orchestral pop.
The drums sound exactly like Jeff Lynne drums. It's his sound that he's cultivated for many decades, so I wouldn't expect anything else. It's a defining characteristic of his productions along with the defining sound of his guitars. It's who he is.
Where would we be without Jeff Lynne? To me, his footprint on music is huge. Such a soft spoken guy too...seems like a real gentleman.
From what I have seen and heard, the guy is clearly 100% talent and 0% ego, kinda the exact opposite of music stars of today like Justin Bieber and Kanye West…
Indeed! Though I believe there was more warmth in the drumming around pre New World Record. But still, this is a very good crafted record. The drums sound exactly like Jeff Lynne drums. My wife is in Ohio, looking at antique shops. She bought me this...claims to be from 1938, but no clue if it's original or not. Either way, it looks cool. It's going as a conversation piece in my hi-fi room.

No 0000005 sold well a few years ago. I think the estimate for this one is conservative.

Since I've been on a Fleetwood Mac binge lately I've been playing a lot of FM music and I noticed I couldn't find one of my CD's...so I ordered a replacement

Eh...OK. So now I have just instilled a little lack of faith in the DR numbers. Just for fun, I plugged in my old Metallica CD - Ride The Lightning. I seriously always thought the disc sounded pretty much like hell. Here are the numbers....seriously? I figured they would be an average of 5 or something like that....what you all think?

I've always liked Jeff and his music..especially with ELO.... but the one thing that bothers me is his avoidance of surround modes in his releases...even this latest blu ray concert didn't have any surround modes...that's why I didn't buy it...and it's an excellent concert..I have it recorded from the Palladia Channel...
This is possibly of no interest to anyone but me, but earlier this year I did some research and found out who Mrs Scarrott was.
It even got a small (anonymous) mention in Uncut's Ultimate Guide to Fleetwood Mac.
I'm no expert on any of this stuff but my personal opinion is there's more to great sound than just dynamic range, I think some get too hung up on it but like I say just imho.. obviously its ideal to have great DR but great source tapes carefully transferred, good mastering, a well-produced and engineered record in the first place, etc, all helps too..
