I'm sure the answer is yes...but hear me out. If I have an album that is in FLAC format....can I make a copy of that same album to another format...and still retain the FLAC version?? If so, how?

thanks QQ!!!

Hey GOS, you should be able to copy away. FLAC doesn't have any limitations in this regard like DRM or anything - in fact I don't think it's even capable of any type of copy protection or limitation. The details depend on the software you're using; but for example, if you're wanting an mp3 version for a portable device or something, your encoding software should retain the original FLAC version (in its original location) by default.

I assume this isn't a computer "where are my files on my hard drive and how do I move and manage stuff" question...

You can convert it back and forth between flac, apple lossless, ogg, and wav and it will be bit for bit identical. As long as the format is lossless. WAV is the raw uncompressed version FYI. The lossless formats cut the size in half while preserving the data.

You can convert files back and forth with the lossless formats a gazillion times and the audio stays unchanged.

One thing though.
There's a thing called tags. The media player formats like FLAC support tags which is where the album/artist/title/art data goes.
Make sure the copy/conversion app copies the tags. And understand that the uncompressed wav format does not support tags! (You'll lose that artwork and fancy punctuation in the song name if you convert it to wav. But the audio quality will be exactly preserved.)

Too much info yet?

FLAC files also have a built-in checksum so you can verify the integrity of the file with many of the conversion apps.

In the last few weeks, we loaded the car three times with gear and software from a GF. She's moving to Denver and not a big music fan. Therefore, I was bequeathed her late Dad's stuff. Besides a QRX-5500 I got from her a couple years ago, I got a QRX-7500A and 36 Q8's. There are dozens of boxes of other gear, 2ch 8's, 2ch 4 track cartridges :yikes LP's, 45's, reels and cassettes. Strangely, I've spotted not a one Quad LP.

Likely there are many more treasures, since I've yet to go through all the boxes. We've been preoccupied with Joe's Dad since then, who had a triple bypass on Friday.

Here's a very curious cassette that I played yesterday:

Only the first track features them both. It is a studio creation, just like Nat & Natalie Cole's Unforgettable. For more of the back story: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remembering_Patsy_Cline_&_Jim_Reeves

I remember seeing a ton of new Jim Reeves LPs about when I was a kid....apparently he almost had more "hits" after his premature departure than he did before! He had lots of music in the can apparently.

Wow, this wasn't even on my radar...anyone have this disc??

The last time I saw some recent clips of Deep Purple it was pretty bad...Ian Gillan is a 70 year old singer that can't get it done anymore on vocals....they have another release on blu ray here...strange that the DVD versions of both these concerts cost more than the blu ray version...I'd pass on it if I were you...

I was looking around Amazon and stumbled across this. Never heard of them, but I like the way it sounds. Supposedly it is multi-channel. Anyhow, it's a good price and I ordererd... :)

Got it somewhere, don't remember a solitary thing about it (which at one point would mean it was either generally accepted as a load of old sh!t and I agreed with the consensus or it just did nothing for me personally but these days there's so much surround-y stuff flying in from all angles it could well be a good one that slipped between the cracks - and so is now an indicator of absolutely nothing!) I'll check it out tonight and spoil the surprise for you! Haha... :D

Only kidding.. ..I'm sure its a good one.. even those obscure European SACDs of Alpine dwelling maidens yodelling to the tune of I Left My Fart In San Francisco usually do pretty decent things in surround (talk about.. PARP music!) but I've stopped buying them altogether, the sound of the bottom of a barrel being scraped for all its worth isn't that pleasant, even when its multiple channels of guff.. :spot

haha - wow! I thought I had found something no one knew about...I should have known better... :) Well, anyway...I'm keeping my order. :)

These guys have done it all long before we came along! I've been playing ketchup for £^*%ing years! :D
Ah yes I agree do keep that order.. it seems like its a good one (not that I could remember.. ) :upthumb

OK - bear with me....this is a multi layered subject....while it is about music...it's also about getting the best out of your TV (display)

So....I have a 65" LG 4k TV. Model doesn't matter...but as you can imagine, there are tons of settings that can be tweaked. Yeah, yeah - you could go out and spend $300-500 and have it professionally calibrated (I just can't justify this amount of money).

Or, you can do a youtube search on your model and hopefully you will find a hit with best case settings. I found such a site. Avforums Steve Withers has such a video. I'm just a little giddy - I applied the settings he suggested and I'm telling you, it made a massive difference in the general quality of the picture. I mean, whoa.....so I'm watching The Eagles Farewell Tour bluray and I simply cannot believe the difference this has made.

Yes, it's very possible that these settings are not the best for daytime viewing (with bright sunlight), but man oh man....for cloudy or night time....holy ****. Unreal! OK, and this concert is very special with excellent sound qualities for any of you that don't have it....duh. Get it.

Do you have a link to the specific Withers article that you used?
