Sorry if I may have missed the answer to this previously, but what did Mobile Fidelity do before when they had their short-lived Surround Series?

They hired Paul Stubblebine, a San Francisco based mastering engineer who does have a Multichannel equipped mastering studio, to do the mastering on their Surround Series SACDs.
These days, Stubblebine is the co-owner of The Tape Project, one of the early players in the Analog Tape Reissue business.

Oh brother, I read "Why Tape" on the link and I said No, don't go there. But a nice read at any rate.

Just purchased HDTracks 24/192 stereo, The Doobie Brothers, 8 albums. I had to as a San Franciscan I know the Doobies intimately for years. If MOFI doesn't break into surround releases I think HDTracks will wipe them off the map.

Depends on how the Warner Music remaster of the album in 24/192 PCM compares sonically to the MoFi transfer of the Original Master to SACD.
Neither one is in Surround Sound.

I did my little test of Mofi's 2013 Hybrid SACD vs HDTracks 24/192 2016 remasterd, The Doobie Brothers, Stampede.
Not quite a fair test as the SACD ran HDMI through the MX122 inner DAC and the download ran optical out through the D150.
That said, of course both are great, but I will give the nod to the download.
Mofi: 24/88.2 DSD, great warmth and clarity, resonates well, easy to listen do. A little subdued at times. Listened at 60db.
HDTracks: 24/192. Immediately a little louder than the MOFI. Knowing it is a 2016 remaster I wondered did they add a touch of compression? I turned down to 55db for an equal listening experience. With that said, the sound was much cleaner, better snap, bass and drums definitely better. Overall better.
It comes to the age old question, is it worth the money if you already have the MOFI, for me yes as follows, better sound albeit very slight, ease of access, press a button and go vs pulling a disc and playing. I am a San Franciscan so there are local bands that I have seen and listened to over the years and The Doobie Brothers is how I justify the extra expense.
OF course nothing compares to the DVD-A 5.1, The Captain and Me, as that disc/format still reigns supreme. I will leave it up to others as to what placebo played an effect on my new purchase, but I am happy.

Led Zeppelin has legal problems AGAIN......here

The $40M riff? Sure Led Zep's guilty. They played on a bill with Spirit THRICE back in the 60's/early 70's and that intro to Stairway which is SO intoxicating was probably subconsciously ingrained in Plant/Page's heads. Oh well, let the courts decide. Good article, Clint. And as the article pointed out, this was not the first time they were sued for copyright infringement.

If one listens to Classical music a lot, one will notice themes which are used in Hollywood blockbusters. A great source for plagiarism. Subtle but effective.

I suppose the knife cuts both ways. Big artists often take legal action against others when their intellectual property is 'borrowed". I am sure it's an unwanted headache for all involved. Let's hope it gets worked out quickly and satisfactorily for everyone.

Precisely why I can't stand John Williams....it's OK to "nick" some stuff but he just ripped off all he could...and everybody loves him on top of that....
