My dad used to have this LP....and now I have it! Memories....I used to have a boy crush on that chick on the cover...

They were like chameleons...they could take an established song and do a great instrumental version of the song...

Yep, apparently so. You know, it's funny how when you are a little kid and your folks have these records....well...it was my first step into music. Certainly didn't have any music of my own back then really...so all I had to play on the Zenith console were my dads records. I wore them out....I was fascinated with them... Liner notes, pictures on the sleeve or on the back sometimes. Great stuff to influence a young mind with...

This one is for Quad Linda...and all those that remember the Soul Train Line..."the hippest trip in America...and as always in parting...we wish you peace..love and SOUL"

Our mention of the song Lola by the Kinks happens to coinside with my latest copy of Rolling Stone Magazine..btw there is a great photo on page 3 of Aykroyd..John Belushi and Chevy Chase and Lorne Michaels from 1975...very cool photo...but back to Lola...in this issue there is a piece on Ray Davies of the Kinks titled "My Life In 15 Songs"...and when it gets to Lola...here is what Ray said about the song....It was a great achievement when we finally came back and had another hit with "Lola" and regained our status. "Lola" was a love song, and the person they fall in love with is a transvestite. It's not their fault...they didn't know...but you know it's not going to last. It was based on a story about my manager.

Here is the cover of that issue(not the photo I talked about earlier)

Today is the birthday of one John W. Geils Jr...he is 69 today...better known in music circles as the founder and lead guitarist of the J.Geils Band...the bands biggest hit was centerfold...which reached number 1 in the US in 1982..after the band disbanded in 1985 John opened a motor sports repair shop for vintage sports cars...he resides in Groton Massachusetts and in 2009 the town honored him by having J.Geils day on Dec 1 2009...

The J.Geils Band has had several lineups since it's founder departed and presently opens for Bob Seger on tour...the band is led by one of the original members...harmonica player Magic Dick(seriously...that what Richard Salwitz calls himself..I'm not making this up)...the stage name he chose isn't based on what you might think...he co-designed a harmonica which he called "magic"...and his name Richard morphed into "dick"...so there you have it..not sure he's telling the women that follow the band the real story...who knows...

Evil Woman - Crow 1969 (from Minneapolis Minnesota)
Killer tune...which of course..if you are a Black Sabbath fan, you would know they did a cover of this Crow song on their first LP BLACK SABBATH.

Warning - Ansley Dunbar's Retaliation 1967

Another wonder tune that was covered by Black Sabbath and showed up on side 2 of the LP - BLACK SABBATH

Damn! I have to wait until the 10th of March for both...give or take.

Yeah, Crow was a great band along with The Litter, also from Minneapolis. Both just really good and didn't make it as big as they should have.

I remember seeing Crow at The Tower in Austin (where all the bands wanted to play when coming to town) when they were still South 40 just before changing names.
