Ambient 5.1 suggestions?

I downloaded about 10 tracks from there. The ZIP files all seem corrupted. I tried opening them in Ubuntu and Windows (7-Zip), and I can either not open the files (Ubuntu) or extract their contents (Windows - Data Error).

If anybody has any luck, shout!

Never had any problem with those files.
I even remember exchanging files with Peter van Cooten, before he put the DTS-files on his site.
These are mixes, mostly about one hour long, with different themes. Not many beats.

You're welcome! Must be CD/DVD! The only version presented on one disc (CD) is a promo, according to Discogs.

Only recently a visitor mentioned problems downloading these files to me.
I still don't know what causes the problem, since I tested this asking a lot of others and most of them report no errors (see also Ge Someone's reaction below). But others do, so there's definitely something random going on.

I still have not solved the issue, but for those that experience download problems I have added an alternate location to download the files from. Hope that also works for you!

Of course I also would like to know what people think of these ambient surround mixes. As said: they are mix-collage soundscapes focusing on (experimental/cinematic) ambient music. Lots of scene-changes, no beats.

[Edit] - after reading there were some issues downloading these larger files, I added alternative locations for each file. Furthermore, I upgraded my hosting package level. So if by chance you experienced trouble downloading these files, please try again or check the alternative location.

I have to be VERY honest: I was VERY disappointed with Jacaszek's Pentral. I played it last night and was waiting for a hint of brilliance or musicality and what I was met with was total boredom [ennui].

If you are a lover of ambient music, for something a lot more melodic and well recorded [albeit DD 5.1], I suggest American composer John Luther Adams three DVD~V DD 5.1 albums: Ilimaq, INUKSUIT and especially Become Ocean.

Natasha Barrett - Bouteilles de Klein (DVD-A)
Natasha Barrett - Trade Winds (SACD) - recommended
Natasha Barrett - Kraftfelt (DVD-A) - recommended

These recordings are composed ambience, apparently mostly (if not completely) non-melodic in nature (I have not heard all the material). The surround on Trade Winds is VERY active. I have only heard Kraftfelt in stereo but I suspect it is also very active. My surround copy is on order.

I agree with the Bass Communion comparison when it comes to Pentral. I am glad I got it. I will be checking out a couple of the recent suggestions in this thread as well.

Okay, I bought Trade Winds from the list above. Umm. Certainly very discrete and active in the surrounds. But this is too avant-garde even for me. So, while the surrounds are used to great effect, make sure that you listen to samples before you buy in order to know what you are getting into.

Sorry it did not float your boat. I agree that her work is very avant-garde. I use YouTube liberally to preview any QQ suggestions whenever I am preparing to buy, and I have found plenty I have passed on based on sampling first. Always a good practice.
