I wonder how this upmix sounds in comparison to the SACD played through SM3.
It opens up pretty nicely, not as 360degree surroundish as others, but much better than stereo for sure.

Seriously if they can't get access to the multi-track tapes for any of the songs why bother putting out a lavish box set? I am a big fan of Vangelis and the early career of Demis Rousoss and would love to have a retrospective of Aphrodite's Child with better sound and perhaps some outtakes and live performances. They were a fantastic live band as some YouTube clips show. I even played five o'clock at my wedding

I have recently been able to rip the Japanese stereo SACD version and have already ripped the blu-ray surround streams to be able to play them and listen closely in the car. Hoping to do a close comparison soon! I don't have a way to listen to Atmos in the car, but did compare Atmos-fold-down-to-5.1 against the DTS-MA 5.1 version, and prefer the latter. As far as separation between channels is concerned; yes, it's not nearly as defined as mix done from discrete audio sources vs. an upmix, but the sound is very nice overall. Considering it's a progressive ROCK album, I'm ok with there being slightly less dynamic range as long as there is a bit of low-end kick that you can feel. The new box set mixes shine on this front.
