Here is the 2022 stereo mix of Taxman on Youtube:

Like the original mix, it doesn't really open up until about 45 seconds into the track. I would have hoped they would have tried to do more with the center-centric beginning.

Just listened to the Atmos on Tidal. (my system is 5.1).

I enjoyed it. Yeah, it's not 4-corners super-discreet, but I didn't really expect that considering the source material. Nice presentation though. I'm hearing a lot of guitar in rear-right, yes? Similar updated sound and mix we have gotten with the other new mixes. The bass and drums are much more prominent. Paul and Ringo will be happy I'm sure. Can't wait to hear the rest of the album.

Like most everyone else here, I'm quite disappointed there is no physical version available, but I can't wait to hear the rest of the album. The irony is that in their apparent quest to push more people to streaming, all they have done is put the mix I want on something I'm already subscribing to and cost themselves $120 dollars I'd have certainly otherwise spent that now I don't have to.

I am reading everywhere that the Dolby Atmos version of Taxman is available already. Has anyone found it? I have heard the new Stereo
P.S. - I've just listened to the Atmos mix in headphones of Taxman, and the artefacts are not as prominent at all. Perhaps it's a mastering compression issue I'm hearing? If so, I'm very disappointed that we won't be getting the unlimited stereo mix this time round.
Where were you able to listen to the Atmos mix??
mix of Taxman on Spotify. Where does one sample the Dolby Atmos version??

Its on Apple Music. You would need an Apple TV4k device and an Apple music subscription to get it, the same as any streaming Atmos release. It might also be on Tidal, soon, if not already there.

Until we know what this "Digital Collection" really means, one glimmer of hope is that Giles' remixed stereo will give an Involve or legacy QS/SQ decoder more to work with and synthesize a decent surround field that way. Or the newer DSU/NeuralX/Auro upmixers also work well.

All said, I think Apple (the label) / UMG needs to clarify and define what this Digital Collection is, how it's to be provided OR included (as they imply) and by whom. They left way too many unknowns on the table and are losing buyers until they do clear up their own mess.

AFAIK Qobuz hasn't supplied Atmos tracks, either streamed or for sale via download. So wondering if all they will do is the stereo 96/24, mono mixes. Another question mark! Because SDE site has them as a way to stream Taxman but so far the new one isn't on their site yet. Going through the SDE link to play Taxman, Qobuz says Taxman on Oct 28 with no info on stereo or Atmos. Through Roon, they don't have a listing for the 2022 version of Taxman.

More confusion or misinformation.

Anybody with a DAW could cut and paste those 'Mr Wilson/Mr Heath' bits into the rear channels of a Penteo or SPECWeb version of Taxman, doing it themselves. So the streaming version doesn't appear to be that grand.

The funny thing is, when a box set is sold with outakes and a 5.1 BluRay, which discs do you think get played more (provided the person has BluRay capability)? If they're like me, they listen to the outakes once, enjoy them for what they are and their differences, then never take that disc out again. THAT'S WHAT THEY SHOULD BE STREAMING!! Single or low use audio

The 5.1 disc gives the buyer value, current and future, and will get far more use than an outakes CD.

DUMB ASS SUITS

indeedly doodly. i have never listened to outtakes more than once. actually most of the time i don't even give them a first listen. i mean c'mon, why are they outtakes? duh.
the 5.1 blu-ray is the only thing i was interested in here.

Except they make money based on how many times a track is streamed. Putting just the single or low use audio on streaming only would be idiotic from a business sense.

I'm presuming the decision is based on a desire to use this high profile release as a way to promote the streaming Atmos platform.

I am really dissapointed by this omission of the BluRay. I still cant see how removing it would boast streaming sales by any significant amount. One of the excuses made was supply chain related or impact to the release schedule. If this were true they could give us a voucher to get the BluRay when available. My theory is that the BluRay is a pain for Universal. Look at the recent EJ Madman fiasco.

As a young buck, my boss once said, "If it was easy, everyone would be doing it," and, "Of course its a PITA. Getting up in the morning is a PITA." If they think it's too big of a PITA to be in the business, get the hell out and let someone who's competent carry the ball.

This almost feels like doomsday for 5.1with no Blu-ray and the apparent push to stream. Feels almost over and in my mind I barely got started with surround sound. Damn shame. I invested within my budget on a 5.1 system, live in an apartment, already pushing it with this many speakers and happy with what equipment I have. I try to be open to all the new tech but at this stage of life that has diminishing returns. The only real reason I get these deluxe sets are for the surround discs. They are an indulgence. Hopefully this no disc thing on this release is an aberration.

Or the desire to make money by having content on streaming platforms which is the way the vast majority of people listen to music these days. The profit from the sale of a few blu-rays with Dolby Atmos is probably a drop in the bucket compared to the pennies per stream pouring in every time someone listens to a song.

All most likely true. Somehow I find no comfort in it.

Unless The Beatles / UMG have lucrative deals with the streaming platforms regarding exclusively of Atmos content, I don’t understand why the model from the prior box sets was not followed (a Blu-ray with Atmos in the box as well as Atmos for streaming).

Otherwise, why single out the Atmos mix for streaming only yet make the rest of the content available for purchase on physical media and digital download?

my only conclusion is they think this will bring more surround fans to subscribe to streaming services
