OK brothas and sistahs..
I REALLY don't understand the STINK for the SPLHCB mix cause this is basically the same...really it is.. somebody give me a play by play runthrough but , it's the MUSIC that is different and lends itself to a MCH mix .. but GM's(Giles Martin) approach is the same to my ears!!!
(let the ripe tomatoes rain begin)..
Shouldn't the treatment befit the music? I'm not sure I agree that it is the same treatment, but even if it is, they aren't the same albums.

We have now had the chance to sit inside the band while playing all around us. The first time i heard this was sneaking into moms closet and digging thru Christmas gifts to come ( this was released nov 22) and playing it when parents were not around. Thought it was amazing then. Anything these guys did was amazing. But now to hear it as in the middle of the band is just astonishing. It seems as if GM did what he could to make a real surround mix when he had the elements to do so. Love to hear Paul and Ringo's comments. A ten is in order. Wow can you play this loud now. It just gets better every play.

OK, I voted a 10. But I didn't want to. I mean, everything new that comes out - a lot of us say "TEN" just because we're happy to get it. (Well, ISOTLC excepted :) )

So I lived with it. I ripped it. I listened. I listened in the car. I listened to all of the out takes and demos. I listened so much that I am returning to getting sick of the songs again!!! Face it, this material is 50 years old and if you loved it like me, you've heard it thousands of times in your life.

But, I have to give it a 10, remembering that the VOTE is NOT a COMPARISON vote to any other title. It's not saying this album is better than Dark Side of the Moon, Fleetwood Mac, Jimi Hendrix, Billy Paul, or whatever else might be higher in the polls. It's saying that as a single release that I am able to purchase, it's a freaking 10. Hell, it's a fucking 10.

The songs I never played a lot in the past sound amazing. I was never a huge "Savoy Truffle" fan, but I keep going back to that track and am so amazed at how good it is, especially in 5.1, and how clear and exposed the lyrics are - some I never really understood before.

And yes, Rev9 may not be everyone's cup of tea, I was never really taken by the track, but for some wacko reason I love cranking it in the car. So cool, then Yoko ends up in my back seat saying "You become Naked" - WTF? :SB How can this NOT be a 10?

And again, I think of all of the surround fans of the past 50 years that are no longer with us. People like Cai Campbell. I bet he would have loved this release. I am truly grateful that I somehow managed to stay alive to hear it.

TEN
I feel this little Blu ray is what I'm gonna return to again and again when I want to hear this album.
My only real qualifier is that I have just about every vinyl version imaginable and certain pressings, looking at YOU White vinyl German DMM and UK 1978....both slightly different but about as good as it gets, Honorable mention to mfsl. Now, with the mono, my Japan red vinyl press from '82 is astonishing with way more presence than you get on the Blu. Blu sounds dull by comparison. Don't understand that....

I didn't want to rate this until I had the chance to listen to the DTS-HD mix several times fully cranked. Like many of you, I know this album extremely well. A favorite of my mothers, we played this around the house a lot and this it became an all time favorite of mine. My go-to Beatles LP. This package is fantastic. The book is a real treasure and on par with the books from Paul's Archive Series. The demos sound great and are a real treat. Now the surround.....it lives up to the hype and serves the material well. Before even listening, you could probably formulate in your head certain elements of the songs that you couldn't wait to hear utilized in surround. Sound effects, backing vocals, etc... It is always a let down when you finally hear the mix and these elements get ignored surround-wise. That does not happen here. The jet in USSR, vocal asides in Ob-La-Di, birds in Blackbird, all featured where And how you would imagine them. Those harmony vocals in Prudence drifting to the rears and back again....gorgeous. I've played that track alone 30 times. In it, John's vocal sounds magical, the guitar picking clean and distinct, Paul's bass present and forceful but not Mono forceful....and those harmonies. Wow. The horn and string arrangements can more clearly be discerned across the entire album. Piggies is now A favorite due to the amazing mix. A real sonic treat with the songs still sounding cohesive and as you knew them...only better! A ten for me.

yes the 2017 sgt pepper mono was dull too...

How are fellow QQ members storing this beast?

I have some space on top of my sideboard (rapidly running out) and they have some old LP racks to help them stand upright (the lean they appear to have is some sort of camera effect)

Not as beastly as Sgt. Peppers, Kraftwerk 3-D or Farewell to Kings!

How are fellow QQ members storing this beast? This the first ‘big book’ in my collection and although my current shelving can accommodate the relatively large Tull 5.1 releases, it unfortunately can’t accommodate this puppy!

I have mine on top of one of my displays, but I'm running out of space with all these new great Box sets to buy :)

Yes I'm the vote of 6, my musician buddy and I went through this Sat. using my Technics scope to see what was going on for the most part other then Rev 9 and the few other snorts and birds, most of what was in the rears was reverb. 98 percent of this is just stereo. If you just listen to the rears that's what is going on, reverb. Great fidelity!! But! So don't flame me too hard, just what I saw and heard.

Just reverb? Huh? Do we have the same recordings?

Ya except for birds and snorts and some other moments, not a lot but Rev 9 was all over the room and very cool. I will check my settings again but My buddy and I went through about 10 disc's Sat night and had no issues with surround all night.
Well I should have said 3.0 above as the vocals were very evident in the center channel but for the most part the rears were reverb until the above mentioned exceptions.
