CHUCKY IS AT IT AGAIN-------HEART ATTACK AND STROKE!!

It all came to crunch last Thursday when I was at my work desk and I started to feel a dead center mild chest pain and thought Hmmmm that's not good for a 64 year old. After some encouragement from my workmates I drove to Frankston hospital and endured hours of their emergency department entrance. Initial tests were borderline and so I needed to have an angiogram the next day to see if my cardiac arteries were blocked. Next day I was on the slab and they put the tubes into my heart and did their thing and found NO BLOCKAGES!! All was well, then someone asked me a question and all I could do was mumble and slur, in addition the right hand side of my face had dropped and was partially paralised. I had had a stroke caused by the procedure - this happens in 1 in 700 cases. I drew the lucky straw. Next thing you know the emergency stroke department whizzed me off for a brain CAT scan and sure enough they found a clot in the brain and given the position they could not fish it out.

Over the next hour my speech improved and so did my face but then it went much worse and I could hardly get a mumble out yet I knew what to say, it was distressing stuff. They had a very powerful new clot drug that could improve the outcome in 75% of cases but it also could have made it much worse and cause paralysis on my right hand side but I only had another 15 minutes to make the decision as there is a time window when they can use this drug after the event. I decided to "crash through or crash" and went for it. After only a few minutes, my voice started to improve and so did my face, within an hour Chucky was back. I have attached a video taken at my hospital bed as evidence, if I look shabby- its hospital. I sent it to an old high school friend of mine her name was Desma.

They kept me in for a few more days of investigation on my ticker and did a bunch of other tests and turned me into a human pin cushion. The conclusion was there was no damage to my heart, no blocked arteries, no valve issues, no structural issues, no nothing!!! Also they have found zero brain damage. Usually the super clot busting drug does not work to 100% as it did with me- just lucky I guess. On the plus side it is very typical that old farts like me have some degree of coronary artery buildup and its been a back of my thoughts worry for years, turns out I can now eat all the Kransky sausages, pizzas, fish and chips as I want!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It turns out I am in a mystery catagory of micro heart attack of either being coronary artery oscillation reducing the flow- not blockage or a micro burst of a vein not artery and is similar to a cut finger, both will not kill you.

I am back home again. Worst thing is that I am not allowed to drive for a month, so people will have to lug me around and do some working from home occasionally

Oh all this cost me zero, its terrible down here in the socialist workers paradise of Australia with this oppressive socialized medicine comrades.

I am hard to kill

My goodness Charlie...here I was looking ahead at the week's calendar and bemoaning how, or if, I could get it all executed....you put a little bit of perspective on things.

Very glad you are home and free from anything serious. My best thoughts go out for good rest and no more scares like that. Take care.

Wow Chucky you are clearly some form of medical miracle ( I thought you were still getting over your knee surgery) but glad to see you've retained your sense of humour. You really must try and take your time to recover, no heroics - I'm sure all of us here wish you the very best in that. Don't worry though, you are clear proof that only the good die young!
Very best wishes mate!!!

Hey soundfield, I am back working from home tomorrow and will return somehow to the factory the day after if I can bum a ride. Hey my new shinny left knee is fully functional, full range of motion pain free.....hop along Chuck is gone. Now known as walking time bomb Chuck

Geez Chucky, I’m glad that your story at least had a happy ending. It’s always good to be on this side of the dirt. Now I’m starting to feel sorry for anybody who has to transport a guy your size from point A to point B. I do, however, think that it would be an appropriate job for a guy named “Dave The Bitch.”

Lets list them

24 broken bones (23 of them ribs)
2 detached and re attached biceps
2 New shinny partial knees
1 rotator cuff tear
1 partial pec tear
1 Shoulder AC permanent detachment
5 Torn hamstrings
1 two hamstrings taken out of my right leg and put into my right arm bicep
1 Deceased person Achilles tendon transplant into my left bicep
20 sprained ankles (at least)
1 snapped ACL in left knee
3 cardiac ablations
1 cardioversion (paddles zap}
1 Mini heart attack
1 Stroke

I think I need a holiday

Super glad you’ve recovered, but were they ever able to pinpoint the root cause of your chest pain that motivated you to go there in the first place?
Its a mini heart attack either a burst vein (not artery) similar to a cut finger- not deadly or actual turbulent oscillation of the cardiac arteries that reduces the blood flow - again not deadly. Apparently this is all being researched at the moment. There was nothing to see just the evidence of some cardiac tissue damage in the blood test. The blood test for most people will have a reading of say 20 and steady, if you are having a heart attack the reading will be around 2000 and increasing over time. Mine was 200, 190 and then 185. Indicating a minor event with the possibility of a artery blockage, so they had to do the invasive test of angiograph that puts tubes into your arteries and squirts radio active die in under x ray so you can actually see any obstructions. You are totally awake for this.

In the end they could not find any issues with my ticker- but something did happen to damage its tissue.

oh my motivation to go to emergency was a 2/10 mild pain dead center behind the sternum lasting for 1 hour - no radiating pain to my left arm. Felt silly going there.

I was thinking that you might’ve had a moving clot causing a blockage following your knee surgery. I can relate to your sense of relief. I’m a bit older than you and have been through several episodes similar to what you just went through. I remember 15 yrs ago watching the TV screen as they performed my first angiogram, it turned out to be a cake-walk, the biggest challenge I had was when they were poking around my upper leg to insert the tube, I was ridiculously ticklish and my leg kept jumping around as they tried to do the insertion, but once installed, no pain, no trauma.

I lost my vision for a month after one episode, but one morning while sitting alone in the hospital bed I experienced a 30 second gradual transition to where somehow my sight returned, no one knew how or why, but THAT was quite a memorable moment from my past.
Stay healthy and live a long beautiful productive life! With your strong heart and clear arteries, you’ll be good to go for the long haul.

YIKES!!! That’s quite a list!
So I’m not the only person here that has spent a ton of time in surgery and recovery over a lifetime. Both my upper bicep tendons are anchored (relocated) with screw plugs jammed into drilled holes in my upper arm bones. Both shoulders totally overhauled, 14 months on one, 15 months the other. I won’t bother anyone with my ludicrously expansive medical issues “list”, let’s just say that living fast & reckless from the crib forward takes its toll.

@M-D-Z, I grew up in the South Bronx so no fast and reckless living on my part needed. OTOH, I have had 3 cerebellar strokes that have left me with essentially trivial balance issues. ER docs run and hide when people like us show up. With all due respect to community hospitals, I only go to tertiary hospitals when I have an acute medical issue.

Wow! I'm glad you're OK! It could have been so much worse. Speedy recovery, mate!

:eek:Yikes! Good thing you decided to go to the hospital, and glad to hear you're doing well. Have a speedy recovery, so just don't over do it, take it a bit easier. That is what the underlings/gophers in the company are there for, sorry Dave et al!

Looking at the list you are the Billion$ man :)

Glad to hear you got through that. Hell of a way to finish off the week!

Hi M-D-Z
Its highly unlikely related to my knee surgery as any clot produced from that would have settled into the artery wall and become artery by now. This happened in my first heart catheter ablation where a clot was produced and wandered and settled in my lung- its now lung.

Sounds very much like you to had a stroke during your procedure, it is truly amazing that your vision actually returned after that period of time. In retrospect whilst it is nice to no my coronory arteries are totally clear, I wish I had not bothered. I got real lucky the consequences of this 1 in 700 could have been much worse. It does need to be done after a heart attack to determine if you need stents or bypass surgery

How did you do those injuries......being an idiot like me????
