Here are a few originals straight from the top of my dome:

David Shire - The Conversation
James Horner - Krull
Howard Shore - Dead Ringers
Angelo Badalamenti - The Straight Story
Ry Cooder - Paris, Texas
Vangelis - Blade Runner
Alan Price - O Lucky Man!
Bruce Langhorne - The Hired Hand
Michael Stearns - Baraka
Paul Giovanni and Magnet - The Wicker Man

I think the title should be "Your favourite movie soundtrack". There are hundreds of amazing soundtracks. Impossible to single one out. Ennio Morricone alone has scored hundreds of movies and at least ten of his are phenomenal.

The movies Sergei Prokofiev scored in the 1920s and 1930s are rarely mentioned in this conversation, but to my mind they're clearly the greatest film scores ever, to the point that they're now part of the classical standard rep. Prokofiev was the only composer of the first rank to compose film scores and to be a master at it - Alexander Nevsky to my mind wins top honors, but his score for Ivan the Terrible is also a masterpiece.
