production values aside, I'm dreading more than anything the Nirvana BDA's (which I'll still buy regardless to support the whole HFPA effort) will use the latest masterings..@: but I'm trying to see the bright side of the half empty glass just before the dawn and the horse have bolted! :p :ugham:

Also a nice question from super deluxe edition in their facebook page why They not put on all the tracks from the anniversery edition on that BD...UMG thinks only from 12 till midday

I'm with you 100% here, Fred. If the recent remaster of "In Utero" or "Nevermind" is used, then it is certainly nowhere near High Fidelity anything as those masters are unlistenable.
BTW - have you heard the 2 disc version of the Manic's "Everything Must Go" - awful. It is literally distorted in places.
In addition, I wonder how many of these supposed "High Fidelity Pure Audio" titles are upsampled.........

is that the 10th Anniversary edition of the Manics' album with a DVD? I've not heard it but picked it up & put it down over the years.. I'm not sure if its too soon to revisit that era with anniversary anythings (for another 5-10 years maybe.. but it'll be all downloads by then!).. Good question! There'll be upsamplings for sure, I reckon.. though I have to say most of these HFPA discs I've bought so far have been really good, not compressed to death and some of them have been excellent, especially the Stevie Wonder SITKOL blu-ray which is amazing!

pleasant surprise.. the "Getz/Gilberto" HFPA BDA turned up this morning (I'd had it on pre-order w/Amazon UK for ages.. and here it is! wow these releases are a mess!!)

anyhoo.. will give it a spin tonight, see what's what! :)

Getz/Gilberto is also up on the Acoustic Sounds DSD Downloads web site as of earlier this week.
By the way, the DSD version is the corrected edition where the channel assignments have been corrected.
See http://store.acousticsounds.com/d/94083/Stan_Getz__Joao_Gilberto-Getz_and_Gilberto-DSD_Download

It notes:
The original master tapes for this title had not been used since 1980 previous to this reissue. Also, for this Analogue Productions reissue the decision was made to master and present this album as it was originally mixed to master tape. With very few exceptions all versions of this title to date, including the original, have had the channels incorrectly reversed. With this version, you'll hear this title as it was intended to be heard, without the channels reversed. And again, those reissues you've heard up until now - definitely still breathy, warm and rich - were made from something less than the master. Prepare to hear the veil removed.

very interesting info, thanks once again!

its probably just coincidence the UK BDA coming out same time as Acoustic Sounds' DSD download?

the package I received is identical to the Stones' Grr.. BDA in the usual clear BDA case with gold lettering atop the case, with red/black/white round sticky label proclaiming "NEW! Ultra High Quality Audio Offered In Its Purest Form - No Video Content", which is the exact same as the German issues of these discs.

The French FNAC editions have a long rectangular blue/black/white sticker affixed with French wording & little speaker layout diagrams.. this title has been out in France @FNAC since May this year.. I just held off buying as it was cheaper from Amazon UK and I could bear to wait

just out of curiosity, where am I looking to pinpoint the channels? any track to positively identify the corrected mastering?

I imagine this is the same (incorrect) mastering/mix as the old Verve SACD.. but you never know!? anyhoo.. home now.. and just unwrapped and popped this one.. it certainly sounds very nice. :chill

..I'm not dissing the band or the music, just expressing my opinion that I don't care for the fidelity of Nirvana recordings, there's a host of other equally "classic" albums I'd choose over these two to showcase "HFPA" -- as always, YMMV.. as everyone tells me these days.. and I respect that your opinion differs from mine, who's wrong or right!? no-one! (y)

Then you haven't heard the ORG vinyl pressings of the Nirvana records. Sorry, I am in agreement with rtbluray, you are wrong.

no, I haven't heard the ORG vinyl.. ok, i'm wrong :)

this could all be fruitless anyway, we might not even get to hear the damned Nirvana blu-ray audio to make any kind of comparison.. word on SHF is all the upcoming HFPA's have been cancelled..!!@:

frankly how they selects titles and handles this HiRez movement - i guess it's better to be canceled,
instead of corrupting a good idea. i guess all those monstrously big labels must die out and finally extinct
at all, before something good in music will begin.

Perhaps the HFPA launch via Farcebook didn't go the way it was planned......it wasn't what people wanted....very little 5.1. After all what do we know!

very true!! maybe they finally woke up when far and away the biggest number of comments they got to one of their Facebook announcements was in response to their gibberish justification about the lack of 5.1 on these discs..

..or not! they could still be coming this month/next month/whenever..!? who can say when, what or how.. the whole thing is a total shambles.

Link? Well in certain ways, good riddance. I think I'll be selling all the ones I bought, except the Stones.

Right. This could be a record for the shortest time a format existed.
HFPA is not a format...its a marketing ploy/branding/authoring style.

They are just blu-ray discs..and blu-ray isn't dead.

This is just based on someone on SH.tv saying that all the Japanese HFPA releases for September have been cancelled. Let's give the situation at least a minute to develop before we start lowering the casket in to the ground, shall we?

true! it ain't over til the fat lady on a disc of unconfirmed mastering sings! here's the problem I have - all we've got is speculation, there's no concrete information on any of these HFPA releases, there hasn't been all along.

the HFPA Facebook page hasn't been updated in 10 days, none of the discs that were supposed to be out in the UK by now have made it out (some have been postponed until mid-October, according to Amazon UK) and now the cdJapan mass-cancellation. it doesn't look promising.

i'm not bashing this HFPA programme (as opposed to format, thank you LK) in essence, or for the end result which is by and large good (the HFPA discs I have are mostly worthwhile) just the handling of its' release stinks. it makes DVD-A, SACD & DualDiscs' respective roll-out's look positively slick by comparison. in the absence of facts, we're all having to whisper and gossip about what in heaven's name is happening with these releases.. pretty poor show for the World's biggest music label.
