the potential stereo glitch on CTA would certainly qualify as a real issue

A technical thread for this release was planned today and the split gods let me have it hard. Thanks for restoring this as a matter of record, sorry you had to repost.

I blew my $100+ on Audio Fidelity SACDs, and have no more music funds this month for the Chicago box.

That is some pretentious bullshit going on over there. Wish I could've been blessed with the golden ears some of those people have. But maybe it's a curse? They can't seem to enjoy this fantastic release. I'll be giving this a 10. Rhino hit it outta the fucking park; no question in my mind.

Almost makes me wish I was reading that thread! Almost...

It IS a curse, I think. For everytime I read something over there that makes me wish I was able to hear "that", I read five other things that make me glad I can just appreciate the music.

Not to mention that I might need to be spending thousands of dollars more on stereo equipment that I'd rather spend on other things.

I agree Philip. This box is astonishing. I just perused over at "another forum" and they are going on and on nit-picking the mastering and pointing out an imperfection here and there, and GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK!!! Those people cannot just enjoy music, it makes me CRAZY. I don't know what else to say. This box is AWESOME in my book

:nuke :nuke :nuke :nuke :nuke
Brick was good - This box is FUCKING AMAZING!!!!! Having had these quad mixes for years in Q8 quality this is a HUGE step forward. I can't even imagine how someone could say anything bad about any of it from the box itself to the quality of the sound or even the price. The fact that this even came out in the first place still amazes me. Thank you so much Rhino for creating this exceptional package. Here's hoping for MUCH more.

There is a guy named Gardo over there that is the biggest buzz kill ever. Now I remember why I don't go there anymore.

Exactly. These mixes haven't been released for decades. 99.9% of people in the world don't have the equipment to hear the original releases. That Rhino released them at all, let alone in such a nice package, is a freakin' miracle considering the state of the music industry.....

....and people actually complain because, in their opinion, the lows and high mids sound a bit "jacked up", and there might be some compression added, but they won't be really sure until they run it through an analysizer?

Seriously? Blows my mind sometimes. It really does.

SCREEECHHHH!!!! (derail alert!)

Just got an email from the Spin CDs people replying to my email from last week...sez they're expecting it this week and it'll be shipped ASAP!!!

CAN'T WAIT, YOU GUYS ARE MAKING ME DROOL!!!!

I listened to several tracks across 2 or 3 discs. What I really like is the fact that despite the fact that I claim to be a big Chicago fan, I never owned many of these discs. Only had the 45's of the hits. Soooo - getting to hear the full release....and in QUAD is just a real treat. I am gonna just love this box set.

I only wish I were patient and knowledgeable enough to understand how to RIP the DTS HD Master.... :violin
I know, I know...many have tried to help me...but it just seems to be beyond my understanding.@:

Hey - another cool thing I noticed on some of the older discs is they left some of the "warts" Which, I think is simply amazing. You know, just a click, creak or whatever....today's music is so "manufactured"....you gotta love the early 70's recordings. When you hear it...you really do believe a real musician is at work trying to get their part down on tape. So, so cool....

OMG!!!!

What in the world is wrong with these people at the Steve Hoffman Music Forums?

http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/quadio-chicago-bluray-box-set-announced.531917/page-28

Why people just can't be happy about this release and enjoy it?

Anyway, I just listened to two more albums (Chicago X and Chicago VIII) and all is great!!!!!

Kind regards,

It seems that some members on the Hoffmann thread believe that the bass on these Quadios is a bit overdone. I can see how they might feel that way, but any issue they may have is easily corrected with a judicious bass cut via the tone controls. In some cases/times I may boost the treble instead or tweek both little bit. These kinds of so called mastering "issues" do not bother me. A well mastered recording allows the listener to adjust tone controls to his/her taste and achieve excellent results. Such is the case with this Quadio set. However, no degree of fiddling with the tone controls will correct a muddy recording or one with an over-cut high end as seems prevalent on many remastered red-book CDs.

Besides, Pete Cetera plays one heck of a mean bass and I like the way Rhino brought it to the forefront. Always loved his playing on Poem 58, the bridge on Questions 67 and 68 that signature intro to I'm A Man, etc.

You're not alone about this :)

My package arrived yesterday and I can't wait to start listening. I just wanted to put a good word in for ImportCD. This was my first time purchasing from them and I was well pleased.
1: Lowest USD$ price (with online code). 2: Pretty fast standard shipping. USPS acknowledged the tracking number on Friday & it was in the mailbox Monday morning. Kentucky to Long Island.

It looks like I will be picking up the Mirage set from them - again lowest price USD$.

Well due to a screwup on UPS' part, looks like I may not get my set today as originally expected. Damn…can't stand to wait too much longer…

Bass is well-balanced on my system. Too bad for them. Yeah, I'm lovin the bass work, which never stood out to me on the radio.
