You don't own BIA in YOUR VERY FAVORITE FORMAT MLP DVD~A 5.1??? In fact, the engineer who mastered the 5.1 of the DVD~A and the SACD went on record to say he much preferred the sound of the DVD~A....over the SACD!

Brothers In Arms was an early PCM DDD Recording which lends itself to MLP DVD~A 5.1 [PCM all the way, baby] instead of converting the files to DSD.....Make sense?
It's hard to imagine this MC album sounding any better (I have the SACD). I guess the DVD-A at least has to go on the "some day" list...

Someday, Señor Miguel! It's one of those to die for MLP DVD~A 5.1s

I bought the DVD-A after the SACD so I could rip it (still on the hunt for a oppo 103 so I can start ripping SACD.) It did seem to me the SACD was brighter sounding (maybe too bright) and the DVD-A smoother highs with better low end, IMO.

I've noticed an SACD will sound a little too clinical and the DVD-A a little warmer. BluRay audio seems to take the best of both formats and adds just a notch more fidelity to the mids. Cool pup for your avatar, btw.

And then it get complicated by the machine used for playback as some excel better at one format than the other. Of course Ralph has the MOADVDA players on which the playback of the MLP version will not be topped.

I feel the same about these two; I heard the SACD first, when a friend bought it. In particular, the percussive taps during the title track (from tapping the snare frame? I don't know much about drums ;)) sounded a bit harsher than they did on his old CD copy of the album. I managed to nab the DualDisc later, and am certain it sounds more natural. Glad that it isn't all in my head! :D

AR, considering Brothers In Arms was an early PCM Digital Recording [16/44.1] I always felt the MLP DVD~A preserved the PCM source instead of the conversion from PCM>DSD. I wish I had that blurb where the remix engineer stated that he DID prefer the DVD~A over the SACD.

Ironically, Analogue Productions has recently released 2 original PCM DDD [16/44.1] recordings [Nils Lofgren LIVE* and The Cowboy Junkies' Trinty Sessions] which they released as Stereo SACDs and they sound SUPERB....but I chalk it up to improved remastering since BIA was released some years ago.

OT but, why wait for an Oppo fro ripping, one of those Sony (S590) or Pioneer BD players can be had for much cheaper, if ripping is your only goal.

I second this suggestion. I personally have the Oppo 103, but I recently added an inexpensive Sony BDP-S590 as a backup ripper. Setup and working!

Yeah, I bought one of the Pioneers a while back specifically for ripping. Bought it new for less than 1/2 what a used 103 was going for. It works perfectly.
