What a complete and utter joke.
I was relatively unfamiliar with the entire ELP catalogue before these recent re-releases. I'd heard the greatest hits a few times, which was pretty much it. Emerson, Lake and Palmer and Tarkus were both fine re-releases that left me interested in hearing more. Then we had the Brain Salad Surgery debacle and this execrable months-long smoke and mirrors game with Trilogy.
Compare this to the re-release issues from Yes and King Crimson, which introduced me to both bands with thoughtful, well-presented releases that were well priced and stocked with great material. Pink Floyd has surprised us twice with unexpected and excellent releases. Even the other recent 5.1 re-releases have been miles better than ELP's half-hearted attempts, particularly Bob Marley, XTC, Gentle Giant and Jethro Tull. These bands respect their fans and understand how to get our interest. I've paid full price for almost all of these releases, and I'm happy to line the artists' (or their estates') pockets with my hard-earned money for the fine releases they've put out.
ELP, on the other hand doesn't care to get it together, which is a galling display of disrespect to their fans. Some of you are very happy with the BSS box, and will be looking forward to Trilogy. I think that's great and I'm glad you can enjoy them. I would like very much to count myself as an ELP fan, but I am not. I will not be buying Trilogy or anything else this band chooses to release.
