LOL - I will be the last guy chewing them out....I don't pretend to understand why things like this happen....not being an insider and all.

For "Brain Salad Surgery", it probably went down like this:

Band approves Jakko's new stereo mix (which overall is very good), doesn't approve the 5.1 mix, then suddenly somebody discovers the "Karn Evil 9 3rd Impression" Bass Solo and says "Whoa! We can't have this going out to the mass public like it is! So why don't we stick the 5.1 mix just in the Super Deluxe Edition, that way we make sure that those who really want it have to pay extra for it?"

Therefore they solved one problem by creating another one…still, they tarnished their reputation so badly IMO, and they know it too.
We'll see where things go from here...

I still have no idea how Brain Salad Surgery was allowed to be issued as it was with the poor mix.
I don't like the CD Remix either.

For any of you that might be interested, I forwarded the King Biscuit tape I found and as of today there is a decode of it posted on the dreaming spires blog. As I suspected, it is definitely a different sounding decode than the SQfinal version that has been talked about in the past. It sounds a bit more like the Q8 version, although it is missing all the echoes that are on Gregs vocals as well as Keiths vocals on KarnEvil 9. EFX returns are more noticeable in the back channels during Gregs acoustic songs. The synth panning between the four speakers is more blatant. It also has more rough edges on it compared to both the album version and the king biscuit cd, as if it was mixed fairly quickly. So basically this mix is neither the lp mix or the cd mix, it's somewhere in between, and definitely quad.

The all too familiar notice from amazon uk...trilogy has been delayed...shocking news!...alert the media...this now pushes my "arrival date" to May...in a totally unrelated development it is rumored that Jakko had taken a job with the Belgian Trappist Monks making beer...but he was fired because he messed up the mix...I hope this is just a bloody rumor...

I have stopped caring. I wanted it badly, but it has been taken to extremes. I will see it when or if it gets released before pigs learn to fly... And then i will decide if it is worth my cash. Not saying i don't want it, just stating that they probably never should have bothered with a tentative release date until it is final. Very very bad release management and marketing.

Not necessarily according to the latest update. It could be May.

Estimated arrival date: April 27 2015 - May 01 2015

Welcome back my friends to the wait that never ends....

That's delivery date....issue date (for the moment) is April 20, 2015.

But you're probably right.... but I hope I'm right...@:

I feel more optimistic about this release than, say, anything related to Pink Floyd's catalog!@: It's unbelievable the material they can release but the record company is sitting on.

At least we have some idea that Trilogy IS coming out! Wish I could say the same for a 5.1 Floyd back catalog, or Pink Floyd/Waters Wall concerts, or Pompeii, or Immersion boxes for the earlier years...

I'll pull the trigger when Trilogy appears in the crosshairs...

Oh, I get by with a little 'ELP from my friends
Mm, I get high with a little 'ELP from my friends
Mm, gonna try with a little 'ELP from my friends

Did anyone else notice that there is now extra information on the item page? There are details (albeit scant) on the contents of disc 2 & 3. They both have one extra track (From the Beginning) which I'm guessing is the US single mix or something like that. Nothing about formats, but going on past releases there will be the expected 5.1 mix and an 'alternate Trilogy'.

The appearance of this info indicates that the date is firming up to me.

Having previously preordered the 3-disc BSS with the presumption of inclusion of a 5.1 mix, then having it replaced with a "super-duper" stereo mix instead, I'll wait for some sort of official announcement regarding content of this set. That sort of bait and switch is why I cancelled my BSS order. I'm hopeful this 3 disc set includes the 5.1 mix but if not, there are plenty of other releases on my wish list to spend my money on.

I have to quote you rtbluray and take the liberty to extend your phrase to nearly everything ELP and their individual members did after ELPowell (from circa 1986 on).
ELP is my favorite band by far and also by far my biggest deception, and I'm a guy who even deals well with "Love Beach" (I keep saying it has a fantastic B-side and Canario on Side A, and it would work well had it come with a grey cover and the name "Works 3", but back to topic).
So why everything regarding them since at least about 1986 has to be so slow (re-re-re-releases, re-re-reunions, side-projects)?
Did they all get such an extreme burn-out on music and music business?
Their reputation and artistic/commercial integrity were huge in the '70s (they even wanted to include "PAAE" as a bonus disc 2 on "Tarkus"), now it's only about stagnation, bad commercial moves, irritating less and less patient (ex-)fans, and money based on the past.

How?

Around the time of release of the big box and the realization that the surround mix was not going to be included in the 3-disc edition, I remember seeing a lot of angry posts not only on here but on ELP's pages and on the product reviews on retailer websites.
How could they not have taken notice of all the bad posts, reviews, and publicity from all these different areas online?
It must have affected sales too, I'm sure.

From the screwed up "Karn Evil 9 3rd Impression" surround mix to pulling the entire surround mix from the affordable 3-disc edition, they screwed up BIG TIME, and look how many users on here will not give ELP the time of day since this happened and since we have also had to wait a long time for "Trilogy".

If I have a certainty regarding ELP, at least from the '90s on, is that they will treat their loyal fans like s**t.
Look at those many boxes with 10% or less of "new" material, look at those re-re-re-releases of audio and video, always with a tiny little thing plus which will make you buy all the same thing over and over and over again.
That's what happens when you die artistically. You can only explore the old glory days, and then you'll have to maintain a vampiresque relation with the fans.
No wonder why, among all the major Prog bands of the late '60s/early '70s, ELP is the one that is jumping into oblivion faster. It's unfair considering what the band once were, but it serves the "doppelgänger ELP" (that emerged on the '90s) right.
Am I interested on the new Trilogy release? Yes, unfortunately...
