If the blu-ray does indeed include the Atmos mix, then I simply consider it yet another way for the artist / label to bleed us for more money..............................

I'm HEMORRHAGING!!!
:SB:SB:SB

Well at least you have your trusty Parasound P7 ALL analogue pre~amp to keep you lukewarm, AR!

"Elton John" and "Tumbleweed Connection" did have 50th anniversary vinyl reissues, but that was it, nothing as comprehensive as this, although they did have 2-disc deluxe editions released back in 2008, whereas this is the first deluxe edition reissue of "Madman".

:)

ah yes.. how could i forget! πŸ˜…
can you say where you got the pic? i can't find any other mention of this lovely looking set anywhere else so far (and i've been looking ever since you first posted about it here!) πŸ‘€

I do hope one of the CDs is a live disc, preferably from 1971 when the band was just a trio of Elton, Dee Murray and Nigel Olsson. The live shows in that era were incredible.

they were indeed incredible at that time! that specific time's incredibly well-covered by incredibly good sounding bootlegs but they can be bettered by something official, i'm sure! 🀩

i also hope they include some previously "unreleased" stuff as well.. demo's are sometimes cool.. outtakes too.. although i recall the EJ/BT well was a tad drier than usual at the time (understandably so, they'd effectively done 3-4 albums in a year and a bit or something daft like that!?) and they didn't overwrite for the Madman album as they usually did.. and i'm mindful this was the only Classic Years album Gus didn't add any bonus tracks to back in '95 (ahh.. back when i had a waistline and CD remasters were somehow more meaningful to me than they had any right to be.. especially considering how ropey some of them sounded!) πŸ˜…πŸ₯³

i'm a bit out of the loop with similarly configured physical releases these days, what's the usual pricepoint for 3 CDs and a Blu-ray in that kind of size of Book packaging and crucially with no vinyl (thank God! πŸ™ )..? πŸ€”

i'd hope around the Β£40-50 quid mark would be the limit (especially if this is the start of a series!) but really cynical ol' moi reckons Universal could slap whatever price they wanted on it and it'd sell (and they know it πŸ˜… ) πŸ˜‚
I would just like the album as one blu ray disc hopefully in the 11mm plastic case. With blu ray you can put the album and any extra all on one disc

Really promising announcement for the release of the previously withheld surround mixes. However, the music industry continues to confound me from a marketing perspective. Why re-release albums already available in multiple formats which must limit their appeal despite some previously unreleased material being included? Clearly the 50th anniversary and copyright protection issues come into play but surely this renewal process still applies to 44 or 47 or whatever number of years. How many of us will be weeping that the copyright is running out again in 50 years from now?? If this is to be the first of a series of expanded albums, hopefully with surround/Atmos releases, why not start with a bang - Don't Shoot Me.... for example? (And I mean the album of course not a request to hold back on criticising me - although please do that too :giggle:)

Since I have tried but been unable to find a way to hear the Atmos mixes of Diamonds via the streaming route I shall be an early adopter of these new releases if Universal decides to look after its customers! Would just prefer to start with a previously unreleased surround mix rather than a variation of one I already have and enjoy. Looking forward to seeing Elton on 4th July in his favourite place (the home of Watford FC - and mine too as a long term season ticket holder for the football team, although it's been a bit of a trial this season as they break records on a consecutive run of lost matches!)

Looks like it's just the 5.1 mix again on the blu ray?! Β£70 RRP.

Maybe it's a typo and there is an Atmos mix? I'd bite for one on the non released albums in 5.1 but no real benefit in upgrading from the SACD as far as I can see...

ahh.. i was trying to zoom in on the Blu-ray disc label's text in Ryan's pic last night and could see a date that looked like it may be 1971.. now i know what it says and is actually on the disc i have somewhat mixed emotions.. the lack of Atmos is a disappointment to me, for sure πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

however if they follow this up with the 5.1 of Don't Shoot Me rather than Yellow Brick Road (again) as i expect they will, i'll stop whinging quite so much! πŸ˜‚

ps. do we know what's on the CDs? πŸ‘€

edit: just seen what's on the CDs, some great previously unreleased stuff on CDs 1&2! nice!! πŸ₯³

But if no Atmos....no point.
Will cancel...grrrr

Yes, I don't need this either if no Atmos. The SACD suits me fine. Of course, there's the $70 Madman pillow:

Or how about a $20 mug:

Talk about ways to extract blood from fans...

Yes it is a little disappointing as this set would have been the perfect opportunity to include a brand new Dolby Atmos mix of the album.
However, I still think we should all do our best to support this release as this 50th anniversary series could be our one and only chance to collect up the remaining 5.1 mixes that are still languishing in the vaults ("Don't Shoot Me...", "Caribou", "Rock of the Westies", and "Blue Moves".)
Besides this release in June, only "Honky Chateau" comes before a supposed 50th anniversary edition of "Don't Shoot Me..." next year, so the better these sets sell, the more likely we will get what we are waiting for in the future!

Plus even at $90, this set is still a much better deal than the over bloated and over priced "Moving Pictures" set.

:)

It makes no sense for them not to include the Atmos mix since it is already done. Why would they not want to recoup some of the costs of producing that mix? It just seems like a lost opportunity. I suppose, as always, the multi-channel market is an afterthought.

I guess we should just be glad that they aren't including the pillow in the box and forcing us to buy that as well.

No atmos is odd. Maybe they've decided the physical atmos mixes aren't such a big draw.

It doesn't rule out a streaming-only Atmos mix but it's odd that they've not announced it if one is planned.
I guess we (I) am assuming an Atmos mix of the full album already exists. If so, it just doesn't make sense to me not to include it on the Bluray. Even if they decide physical Atmos mixes aren't a big draw, as you say, the mixing is done and is a sunk cost. The only other additional cost I can conceive of is the Atmos fee. Adding Atmos can only help with interest on the release

But if the full album was not remixed to Atmos.... then it kind of makes sense.
