oh another one to add to my Fave's List..!
(I've got a feeling this thread will run and run..!!)

In The Eye Of The Storm - Roger Hodgson
(CD A&M 395 004 2).

the first CD pressing is very nice indeed.. and the album.. well, just Wow!
Rog never improved on his solo debut, imho

Great album from Rogie!! I have a "domestic" A&M first pressing CD which was made in Japan. His next album, Hai Hai was a "stiff" (industry lingo for a poor seller), but is a FANTASTIC album!

the MFSL CDs for SD's "Aja" and "Gaucho" are not the best, mastered from inferior sources. the Gaucho MFSL's even at the wrong pitch.

the best Aja CD I've found is what is agreed to be the first run of Roger (The Immortal) Nichols' mastering for CD (MCAD-37214 DIDX 55).

there's so much conjecture & false information about the SH mastering (does it exist!?) I've given up researching/looking.. and spent the time Lapping up the wonderful MCAD-37214 DIDX 55 mastering instead.

so crankable, so gorgeous, so sue me..!!

I've not owned this CD of Aja. I've owned the first LP pressing, a Canadian colored vinyl, MFSL vinyl, first Japan CD pressed by JVC which was lousy, the MFSL Gold CD, Citizen box and SHM-SACD, which is crap.

1st JVC Japanese CD, MFSL CD & SHM-SACD, I agree they are all crap!

the Citizen SD Box I tried out after you mentioned you had them and they do all sound nice for the most part.. they sound like the same sources as the "keepers" i have but different masterings, with some slightly over zealous noise reduction going on and a bit of treble boosting from what I can hear.. but they're still very enjoyable!

for all the classic SD albums, if you can track down either the 1st press Japan for US MCA CDs (I can PM you the cat. info. for each album) or better still the Nimbus UK CDs (which are easier to detect the right ones, as its any with DMCL on the disc hub.. "MCLD-xxxxx" may still be on the spine/art.. but if "DMCL" & "Mastered by Nimbus" are on the disc too, you won't go far wrong) ..the Nimbus' are all great (carefully level-adjusted) transfers of the Nichols 1st issue MCA CDs. no matter which you get though, Nimbus or the right MCA's, they are all terrific! crank-o-Rama! they love to be played nice and loud!

its just a shame one has to hunt down decent stereo CD of Steely Dan, when the chance was there for all those 72-80 classics to be in Hi-Res surround! (well maybe not ALL of Aja.. but most of it and everything else..!!) boooooo..!!! :(

31-40, again in no particular order.

Nation of Ulysses - 13 Point Program to Destroy America
Rage Against the Machine - Rage Against the Machine
Fugazi - Repeater + 3 Songs (CD adds the 3 Songs EP as bonus tracks. 3 Songs contains my favorite Fugazi track "Song #1")
Curtis Mayfield - Superfly
Jack White - Blunderbuss
Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros - Streetcore
David Bowie - Low
Jane's Addiction - Ritual de lo Habitual
Velvet Underground and Nico
Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness

my W.German late 80's "In the Eye.." CD is just a digital clone of your 1st press Japan for U.S. CD.

the so-called 'remastered' CD is nothing of the sort.. but just a straight copy of the original CD..!

i guess either A&M thought there was nothing wrong with it in the first place, or, more likely, that it wasn't worth their while remastering it but repressed it and lied and said it was "remastered" anyway to flog a few more to the die-hards..!?

ah, I'm a sucker for a double dip..!!
