I've had this movie for a few years but with the combination of the LG OLED 3D TV and the OPPO 205, NEVER HAS IT LOOKED THIS SPECTACULAR

JUST FINISHED WATCHING THIS ABSOLUTE DOOZY OF A HORROR MOVIE ON AMAZON PRIME [$3.99 rental and worth EVERY penny] AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT! VERY INTENSE!

I too rented it from Amazon Prime and liked it enough to wish there was an official Blu-ray release. Wicked.

This light, little comedy comes with a nice surprise . . .

. . . a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 lossless mix that, although it doesn't take my surrounds by storm, works really nicely to make watching this film a real delight–wonderful touches in outdoor and crowd scenes, ghostly intrusions, and a stellar soundtrack including the Beatles and Wilco as well as Geoff Zanelli's score. A solid and enjoyable rom-com!

Another spectacular DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround mix! Great sound design and directionality throughout the film! Lots going on in the surrounds that kept me connected to and immersed in the action and themes. The soundtrack really comes alive and enhances the experience as well. These reviews are for an earlier release of the film, but it seems to be the same audio and video transfer (though extras are more sparse on this release). Highly recommended for fans of hand-drawn animation!

WHOA! I found a used 4K on ebay for $12–what an AMAZING experience!

The DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 is one of the BEST i have experienced! Simultaneously subtle and nuanced and cacophonous and explosive, the surround mix relentlessly takes full advantage of the soundfield from beginning to end, making me feel as if i'm in the action and the action is in me–viscerally and intellectually! Ryuichi Sakamoto's score is the sole reason i sought out this film–i learned of it from the documentary CODA. The music did NOT disappoint; the score is an integral part of the whole experience, which was absolutely transcendent. HIGHLY recommended!

I almost pulled the trigger when @4-earredwonder POSTED this was $19.99, but when he POSTED it at $9.99, . . .

I yielded to temptation! And MAN am i glad i did! Audio and video are, you should pardon the expression, EPIC! The DTS:X Master Audio presentation is, here i go again, off the chain! Truly spectacular and HIGHLY recommended!

Who doesn't love John Carpenter movies? I've seen this only once in a theater & still I remember most about it & was impressed. Guess I'm off to check good 'ol Deep Discount after this.

Carpenter had certainly come a long way since his other "star" movie: Dark Star

Now I do own a Blu-Ray of this & have LMAO several times with it. Esp good with friends. A film so cheap & cheerful. Have you noticed how upside down ice cube trays with lights are used for push buttons on the ships control panel?

Since you mentioned Shout Factory this is my recent purchase from them:

Now this was one of my 1st Laserdisc's I bought. I do not own a DVD but I have a DL'ed HD version from an earlier release. Man Oh Man the Shout Factory version is amazing by comparisons. It is incredible that such video & audio quality can be had from a 1974 film. It has nice bright highlights, solid blacks with a full range of tones in between. It has great color balance while the earlier one had sort of what I call fluorescent light color. The sound is a real treat too. Now at the opening number with the Juicy Fruits singing it is so forward balanced & stereo like I had to check my rear speaker power amp & make sure it was turned on. It was. The surround sound ramps up quickly & apply's to music & some scary sound FX.

And of course the movies story is classic mash up so good it's always good to watch one more time. There is a whole DVD of extras & bonus features that usually don't interest me but each one was an excellent & valid contribution.
