Regarding MOTHER ...didn't realize it was actually shot in 16mm [with special effects sequences filmed in 35mm]. My quandry: purchase it in regular BD~V or splurge for the UPSCALED UHD4K?
The Wrestler and Black Swan were also shot on 16mm, the latter being Super 16 I think. It’s kind of a love it or hate it look, but it translates to Blu-ray quite well. I have the blu-ray of mother! which looks great, and the only real advantage I see would be HDR, as Timothy pointed out. Get whichever one you can find cheaper, they both have the same great Atmos track.

Oddly, I've never seen this movie. Any chance the music will be in Atmos? Or, how is the music presented within the movie...just background bits and pieces?

Yep says Atmos and new 2022 5.1 - not full songs for sure maybe a couple, but pretty long pieces and not purely background.....the songs come out front when playing - it is a cartoon, some might call it early anime - sci fi fantasy......like 10 different stories tied together a lil bit. I had friends who hated it.......

The soundtrack is Awesome though......

this is one of the stories.....the animation in each story is different made by different animation studios

Ordered as well. I also took advantage of the buy 3 for 2 at Amazon and Target to round out some goodies.
Underworld Series 4k, Daimejin, Years Of Lead, 300 (4k), Gladiator (4k) and a few Disney 4k to upgrade my DVDs.

From Digital Bits....

In terms of announcement news today, Sony has just officially set Heavy Metal for release on 4K Ultra HD on 4/19 in special Steelbook packaging. The release includes the original Heavy Metal remastered in 4K Ultra HD with Dolby Vision HDR and now with a new Dolby Atmos soundtrack, both reviewed and approved by producer Ivan Reitman. You’ll also get the previous 5.1 mix as well as the original 1981 theatrical Dolby Stereo audio.

The 4K disc will also include the new Heavy Metal: A Look Back retrospective featurette. The package also includes Heavy Metal and its sequel Heavy Metal 2000 on Blu-ray Disc, each with its previous special features. And you’ll get a Digital code as well.

I also saw this movie in the theater when it was first released. Cool movie (albeit silly) and great soundtrack. As Snood mentioned there are long scenes where music pretty much is the audio. There are also some really cool songs on that soundtrack. A lot of top names.

One of my favorite clips from the movie
