One of my favorite surround movies is "Bram Stoker's Dracula". Great use of the surrounds, espically when inside the castle. I have only heard the DVD in 5.1 DTS, but I see the blu-ray is now in Dolby Atmos which
should sound incredible. View attachment 37276

This fantastic Francis Ford Coppola tour de force is now available as a NATIVE [TRUE] UHD 4K disc which is truly unbelievable! https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Bram-Stokers-Dracula-4K-Blu-ray/171527/#Review

Live and Let Die
(nice to hear Wings' song on real MCH)
on Amazon Prime...
Funny story... I have had APrime for a couple of months and on Saturday my brother told me in an uncertain way that I had access to all of these streaming series and movies...which I wasn't aware of (!!!!)
Been on a binge ever since!

Just watched Roma (latest Cuaron's movie) in Netflix. With almost no musical soundtrack, this is likely the best movie sound mix I have ever heard. The placement of voices and sounds (and images) is done in a way to make you feel inside the movie. And I mean really inside, like of you were another member of the family and sounds are reaching you in a fully directional way. When someone starts speaking to you and the image rotates, so does the sound. When the characters get out in the street, you're suddenly surrounded by the city noises in a very realistic way.
There's a scene where the lead character gets into the sea and you're all of a sudden amidst the roaring waves, perhaps the most emotional and powerful moment in the movie.
Watch it, if only for the sound mix (the story and pace might not be everyone's cup of coffee).

Close Encounters of the Third Kind (Director's Cut) 4K:
1. Picture was superb. Worth the upgrade.
2. Some surprisingly decent surround moments from echoes to helicopters and all the usual things.
3. Great bass. Rattled the mechanism in a window blind so I have no idea how to secure that but will have to put up with the occasional buzzing from it.
4. Richard Dreyfuss ruled.
5. Lots of interesting extras on the BD that came with it.
6. 4K contains all three cuts of the movie.
7. I'm guessing the aliens returned Melinda Dillon's bra as well, maybe in Barry's pocket? I know it was the 70's but damn girl, support.

Cool.. I wonder if "Gravity" has the same approach to the MCH mix...
I do not have Netflix yet (I want to get it before they stop showing "El Ministerio del Tiempo") but I do know that the contents are different in each country...

The Long, Hot Summer (1958) BD:
There's a new 5.1 DTS-MA mix on the Twilight Time release: https://www.twilighttimemovies.com/long-hot-summer-the-blu-ray/ There's not much going on in the rear channels - just some reverb but there's decent panning from the fronts and centre channel. Low frequencies in the score sound really good. Dialogue is clear with Orson's overdubs obvious a lot of the time but it's not distracting.
I really enjoyed the movie itself. It's superbly directed by Martin Ritt with excellent dialogue and performances. Orson Welles chews it up in a good way, Paul Newman is superb as always, Lee Remick is drop-dead stunning and Joanne Woodward gives an excellently nuanced performance.

Yes folks, this is a freaking great movie with a F*cking AWESOME Surround mix.... a 10 out of 10 for me

I’ve got the 4K UHD disc but haven’t watched it yet.

I’ve ripped it to MKV but Kodi doesn’t support HDR yet. That should happen soon. I’m actually thinking of buying an el cheapo 4K BD player that does Dolbyvision (and HDR of course). Probably the Sony 700 which is cheapest I’ve found.

In Space no one can hear you scream

Will be released in the UK April 1st [region free]...No US release date yet!
Saw this in 70MM when it came out at the original Criterion Theatre in NY before they turned it into a megaplex. At that time they still allowed smoking in the theatre. When the light from the projector cut through all the cigarette smoke it created a very eerie effect that added to the suspense. Remember it like it was yesterday.

Ditto. I went to a midnight showing at the Criterion and it really did scare the s++t out of me.
