wow, and Ang Lee's Hulk also, which IMO was the best Hulk

and if you ever get a chance to watch Eric Bana (Hulk) in Chopper it's an interesting film about a real life person

Salsdali, while I consider CHOPPER an excellent film have you ever see director Nicolas Winding Refn's equally 'controversial' film, Bronson, with mega talented actor Tom Hardy:

See the source image

Tom's great and equally disturbing in Legend

where he plays two characters (identical twins).

A great turn, indeed for Mr. Hardy, but IMO, this is one of his tour de force performances. Cannot wait for Season 2:

James Keziah Delaney returns to 1814 London after 10 years in Africa to discover that he has been left a mysterious legacy by his father. Driven to wage war on those who have wronged him, Delaney finds himself in a face-off against the East India Company, whilst playing a dangerous game between two warring nations, Britain and the United States of America.

Directors: Anders Engström, Kristoffer Nyholm
Starring: Tom Hardy, Leo Bill, Oona Chaplin, David Hayman, Michael Kelly, Jonathan Pryce

Apocalypse Now: I can’t wait to hear The Doors - This Is The End (at the beginning)

That has to be one of the all time great surround experiences. The way the music and the ceiling fan morph into the helicopter. That’s going to a next level in Atmos I think.

Homer, when I saw Apocalypse Now in 70mm at the Criterion Theater in Manhattan upon its initial release, I have NOT to THIS day ever heard THE END sound so resplendent. And it was ALL ANALOGUE in those days and the DOORS' masters were barely 12 years old!

I'm curious...so you used to live in the US....did work take you to Australia...OR...affairs of the heart:love:

I had a software business here in AU and sold the rights to a company in Berkeley in 1993. My wife and I (just married) moved there in early ‘93 and we stayed til late 95. We had a baby on the way and decided to move back to AU.

My daughter (made in the USA but born here in early 96) is now 23yo doing her final year of a construction management degree.

My brother in law (Bill) is in Apocolypse Now. There’s a few scenes during the go-go dance girls where Sheen is framed with soldiers behind in the audience. Bill’s easily recognised and quite close. In one scene he’s on the right of the frame with just him and his school mate together.

My wife’s father was working in the Phillipines (Manila) in the seventies and all the kids were at the international school there. Apparently Coppola came looking for extras and took a whole bunch of school kids up to the mountains for filming. They were away for quite a while (weeks). Bill was only around 15 at the time and says he had a great time including flying as a gunman on a helecopter and smoking bags of weed every night.

that's one of the cooler Apocalypse Now stories I've heard in a while. :smokin

Martin Sheen also suffered a heart attack and a severely cut hand while filming, now that's dedication.

IMO, the filming of AN was as much of a battle as the real thing, it was over the course of several years (shoutout to True Romance for the AN Dailies scene at the end)

Final cut
In April 2019, Coppola showed ‘’Apocalypse Now: Final Cut’’ for the 40th anniversary screening at the Tribeca Film Festival. This new version has a runtime of three hours and two minutes, with Coppola having cut 20 minutes of the added material from "Redux". It is also the first time has been restored from the original camera negative at 4K; previous transfers were made from an IP.

Glass (2019) 4K:
Dolby Atmos that I experienced as Dolby TrueHD 5.1.
Great fidelity and a decent surround mix with cool discrete moments that matched what's happening on screen. End credits score is worth a listen for the surround mix too.
I enjoyed it as I have Shyamalan's other good ones. He's done a few turkeys but I dig him.

I've seen a few native 4K movies now and am in 2 minds about HDR. In well-lit scenes, it's great. I like the pastel colours compared to what are sometimes neon-esque on BD. In dimly lit scenes though, it washes out all of the detail like there's a dull filter over everything. You can see this in the opening scenes of Glass. On the left of the screen while Patricia is speaking, the detail on the wall is washed out like the rest of the scene. If you turn HDR off, there's more detail and colour. Similarly, the detail and colour are different on the BD, and if you check out the deleted scenes, colours are different again (but the deleted scenes look like they haven't had the same colour grading done to them as the rest of the movie so it's probably not a sensible comparison).

My Sony X800 player/Sony XF90 screen won't allow any monkeying with the "amount" of HDR (I think later models allow how much HDR to apply to be adjusted but I could be misremembering or not paying close enough attention to HDTV Test's videos). There's a HLG setting on my screen that is brighter than HDR and allows more detail to be visible in dark scenes but in the same way HDR looks like a dull filter has been positioned over everything, HLG looks more like a light "haze" has been applied.

Probably the wrong place for a HDR yap but you guys all seem to have good opinions so there it is. So, Glass - worth a look. Crank it up.
