Seems Sony hit it out of the ballpark with their newly minted NATIVE UHD 4K of director Ridley Scott's BLACK HAWK DOWN [SONY/2 CUTS/HDR/DOLBY ATMOS] https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Black-Hawk-Down-4K-Blu-ray/216931/#Review

Black Hawk Down 4K (Blu-ray)

Black Hawk Down
On my list to get as well. This Thanksgiving is going to be a very expensive one!

Costner ruled the late 80's/early 90's: Field of Dreams, JFK, Dances With Wolves.

I'll pick up Field of Dreams when either a NZ store gets it or the exchange rate sorts itself out so I can get it from Amazon. Got a lot of movies in my cart and a BDP that can handle Region A locked BDs now so looking forward to trying it out.

The Natural comes out soon too: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PQTYMGZ/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_5?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1. Never seen the Director's Cut (didn't know there was one either) so that'll be interesting. Likes me a good baseball movie I does.

Annihilation (2018) DVD (yep, DVD - did the $3 library rental):
1. Surround mix was pretty discreet in parts.
2. Script was a bit lazy in parts and characters were a bit whiny.
3. Story was like bits of Andrei Tarkovsky's Stalker and Solaris stuck together, so nothing new.
4. Really good visual effects though. Would have been good to see on 4K but oh well.
5. Score was done by Geoff Barrow (Portishead) and Ben Salisbury, and suited the movie. Would have sounded better if it wasn't Dolby Dig it, Al. It'll give your sub a workout.
Worth a look and a crank-up on the ol' hifi I guess.

Next of Kin (1982) Blu-ray:
1. New DTS-MA 5.1 mix which is mostly from the fronts but has a tiny bit of discreet surround action going on.
2. Interesting history behind it: New Zealand director (his one "big feature"), Australian film that didn't get much attention and pretty much disappeared. I hadn't even heard of it but a plug from Quentin Tarantino in the past few years as seen it get some love.
3. Really good cinematography. Some of the camera work is very intricate and doesn't call attention to itself until you think about what you've just seen ("Hey, did they just do... with the camera? Whoa, cool!).
4. If you like "lost" 80's horrors, this is worth a look.

Here it is on blu-ray.com: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Next-of-Kin-Blu-ray/230611/

Not to be confused with this one (but it's also entertaining enough and worth a look): https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Next-of-Kin-Blu-ray/40807/

Here's a link to the Region B one I bought: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Next-Kin-B...f+kin+blu+ray&qid=1558414523&s=gateway&sr=8-1

Pretty funky looking, Tim. Will have to add it to my wish list

I rent through 3dblurayrental.com to get 4K and ATMOS discs. I'm not big on buying movies as I rarely re-watch them.

I thought Annihilation had a really good surround mix and the near the beginning of the movie there is a Crosby Stills & Nash song 'Helplessly Floating' that comes across really nicely. It might be just really big 11 channel stereo but it sounded great.

Overlord (2018) 4K:
1. Excellent surround mix (Atmos but Dolby TrueHD 5.1 at my place). Up there with Kong: Skull Island, Ready Player One and mother!. Lots going on in all channels most of the time.
2. Great fidelity.
3. I read it was an upscale from 2K or 3K but I couldn't tell. Really sharp. I monkeyed with the picture settings on ye olde Sony XF90 and managed to get it looking flippin awesome with HDR engaged.
4. Some great camerawork in a few scenes.
5. I found it a fun watch. Definitely worth a look. Even if it ain't your bag, you'll appreciate the surround mix.
