Probably a mistake. It was shot in 4:3 as they didn't start shooting CinemaScope movies until the early 50's. BTW, they did 'try' to convert Gone With The Wind which was also shot 4:3 into a wide screen format and were lambasted by both critics and moviegoers.

Glad you and Mrs. B enjoyed it. I thought the 3D was exceptionally well done.

We thought the 3D was great. Made seeing the film feel fresh and fun.

Watched Oliver Stone's bio The Doors [extended Director's cut] tonight [early into the AM] in NATIVE UHD4K [dolby vision/HDR] ...... and I can report a major visual/sonic upgrade from the 1080p BD~V.

Based on the VERY fussy reviewers @ blu~ray.com, the 3D is supposedly reference quality. I probably won't be receiving the disc for two weeks but I really enjoyed the flick on HBO [a FEAST for the eyes] and it does support an ATMOS soundtrack, as well.

I found the film extremely original. Peter Jackson and his wife Fran wrote the screenplay [based on a book] and the reviewer @ blu~ray.com stated 'it belongs in every 3D lover's library...' I figured for under $15 delivered it was a MUST PURCHASE and I don't think that a vagarian like you will be disappointed🌶

I love the look of the 4K version. Supposedly, it’s a native 4K transfer that was shot in 8K.

I could be wrong but, unless they were using 8K 3D cameras, the 3D version is not native.

I watched Rocketman 4K today. Giles Martin is an uncredited actor, no lines, just a few second scenes. See if you can spot him (pretty obvious). He is credited as the movie music producer.

I thought the Atmos mix was pretty tame. Nothing more than an ambient 5.1 mix to me. Picture was pretty average. Not a reference disc but we enjoyed the movie. Worth a rewatch sometime.

I also ordered Mortal Engines 3D and its been shipped. Have not watched it I understand its a visual feast without much of a story but I trust Peter Jackson.

If you get a chance to watch his documentary on restored WWI archival war footage you should do it. It is astounding the quality he got out of the old movie reels speed corrected etc. You can see how bad the teeth were of some of the British soldiers on the front. The majority of the archive he had to choose from were British films.

Watched The Greatest Showman in 4k over the week end. It has an awesome sound track. The opening music/song can bring your house down. I thought it was an enjoyable musical movie.

My Impression: If you have any love for this film, IMO, LIONSGATE and Francis Ford have done a spectacular job! Should sound awesome in Dolby ATMOS, Mike the Vagarian!
