I already had Black and Blue on vinyl. I didn't know what to expect with Wake up Everybody, but it turns out that's my favorite of these two albums. Interesting to note how Wake Up Everybody is less R&B and is a smoother 70's keyboard-driven sound. As per usual with DV, these reissues are sonically and mix-wise well done.

I got this release without any knowledge on the band, only aware of them from the Gamble/Huff producer pairing. I like to think of this group as a copy of the O'Jays, with just a bit more of a "vocal group" leaning to their sound.

Perhaps that is offensive to some, and perhaps that assessment is incorrect across both groups' wider discography, but I mean it without any offense. These two albums pack a punch with powerful soul performances, and I would absolutely suggest giving these a try if you like the O'Jays Gamble & Huff output.
