Whoopee, :SB In Search Of Space, Space Ritual, now Doremi which is a must to get.

Will we get In The Hall Of The Mountain Grill next (Goat Willow would be good in surround), ...... please! Saw them on that tour in Watford, then didn't see Hawkwind again until 1994-95 I think, seen them loads since though!

😲 It doesn’t stop!

Didn’t Steven Wilson said recently on his podcast that the multitracks were missing?! I guess not, thank goodness! :D

He said it, at 20:56 :SB

Well, the band's management didn't want to tell him they didn't want him for a remix of that album so they simply told him the tapes were missing thinking he'd never find out otherwise. Well, the cat's out with the bag on this one. Oh well...

Sad to see that the overpriced box set mentality seems to be here to stay with Cherry Red releases.
While I have no say or control over how much these cost, I have to point out just how much passionate hard work goes into these special box sets by everyone involved, and then the ever increasing physical costs. No one is trying to cash in on these, believe me - it is for ever on the edge. And in the case of this project which includes the full Greasy Truckers live show, it is like a set of two complete albums pushed to the limit. I was so amazed and emotional about the Greasy Truckers concert I tried to encourage them to release it in the surround format, rather than just on the stereo CD. I am so delighted they went ahead. One of my absolute favourites.

Were you hiding the multi tapes that Mr Wilson said were missing? 😀

Blowing my mind with the completeness of the material included!
I expected the singles. Even a surround remix of the GTP live set?! Well shit!

I've had the Star Rats poster on a wall for a long time. Never thought in a million years I'd see these Hawkwind albums get this kind of attention. I probably posted in a "What album should be remixed in surround that will never happen in a million years?" threads while rolling my eyes. Maybe I should check my eyes... Nope still here! This is blowing my mind!

Dude! You actually got someone to release "bonus" live content in full surround instead of the cursory CD!?! (Agreed this makes this a double reissue! Hesitated to use the word "bonus" there.) About damn time! And it's for Hawkwind! You're my new hero!

The main problem I have with Cherry Red is that (like SDE) they don't deduct the UK VAT for overseas orders, whereas Burning Shed do. Invariably, this means Burning Shed work out cheaper. Example: both stores have the recent "In Search Of Space" box for £57.99, but after the VAT removal, Burning Shed drops to £48.33 (postage is higher at £16.58 vs £12, but it still ends up cheaper than Cherry Red by £5 to Canada).

Having done such price comparisons for years (including jpc.de, who were great for the really big Crimson sets to Oz), I usually find the cheapest price at ImportCDs now.

To each his own, but I consider every Cherry Red/Esoteric boxset that I own an absolute gift, especially when they contain a smashing surround mix by @Stephen W Tayler! Whether they’re over priced is a matter of opinion, but as far as I’m concerned they can keep releasing them and I’ll keep buying them.

Thanks, Stephen. While I do not doubt that these are great packages for avid fans of given bands/albums, the lack of standalone blu-ray releases does give off the vibes of trying to cash in, though I would guesstimate this to be counterproductive in terms of the sales. Personally, I stopped buying the CR box sets around the time of the Barclay James Harvest blu-ray + CD mini box sets making it past £35 or so. Had the recent 5+ releases been offered as standalone BDs, most of which I have not heard (or sometimes even heard of) before, I would have bought them all at about £20 just on the premise of having been mixed by someone from my lists of top 2 surround engineers and top 2 Ste(ph/v)ens. ;)

Also, the bands in the CR catalogue are typically not in the benchmark of recognisability that would make people jump on purchasing a box set based on the band name alone as, say, Pink Floyd would. So, I the more so struggle to understand the strategy and come to terms with locking your surround sound work in the price bracket precluding a purchase for the casual listener. After all, it was possible to recently release your sublime Howard Jones mixes as almost standalone BDs.

Perhaps, collaborating with IAA could be considered as an option if the box sets are to be continued.

It wouldn't hurt if they released standalone blu-rays alongside though, would it?
