Steven Wilson's latest update on his Remixes Facebook page concerning the new edition of "Aqualung":
My remix of Jethro Tull‘s classic 1971 album Aqualung is being reissued on 22nd April 2016. Back in 2011 this was the first in the Jethro Tull 40th anniversary remix series, and since then we've all learned a lot! Subsequently a successful and consistent approach to the releases was established, so the opportunity has been taken to bring the new edition of Aqualung in line, and also to make some corrections and improvements:
- this time it will be in the now standard 2 CD / 2 DVD hardback book form, consistent with the other releases in the series
- all the remixes are now presented as they left my studio, with no additional mastering. The publicity material says that the tracks were "mixed and mastered" by me, but any mastering was just to set the correct relative volumes between tracks, no changes were made to the sound of the mixes.
- there are 3 additional surround sound mixes that were not included on the 2011 release: Just Trying to Be, Wond'ring Aloud, Again, and Wind Up (early version)
- a number of audio glitches on the original edition have been corrected
- the original stereo mixes of Life is a Long Song and Up the Pool have been added to the bonus material

Next in the Tull remix series will be the band's 1969 breakthrough album Stand Up and Living in the Past / Driving Song single, most likely towards the end of 2016 (time permitting).

So it looks like "Living in the Past" and "Driving Song" will also be remixed as part of the upcoming remixed edition of "Stand Up", so that deserves a banana! :)

Wow, does it ever....maybe it should be 3 total

In for the third time I guess, but feeling pretty gouged.

First had to get the big set with the vinyl I didn't care about because I wanted hi-res and 5.1.

Then had to get the "unmewtelized" hi-res download because it was much better mastering of the stereo mixes.

Now, there is a new release with additional 5.1 mixes.

Really feeling taken advantage of, but probably not strong enough to skip it.

Agreed but it's not Wilson's fault and, as he says, lessons have been learned along the way.

Given all that, I would be willing to be gouged one more time by a physical reissue of the TAAB set with Mew-less versions on CD and DVD of Wilson's stereo remixes.

Man, all the negativity from some of the fullas in response to his latest announcement. Seems to be no getting through some of them either. Their problem really, it's too bad and as Wilson explained, he's learned a lot since then.

Just thinking about other releases that were never revisited for correction puts this into perspective.

Great news indeed, StandUp in 5.1 and I hope he means 5.1 mixes of "Living In The Past"and "Driving Song" and not just stereo remix of the two.
Thinking positive he means SURROUND!!

I did my "Homework" last evening and counted up all the "BONUS SURROUND" tracks we have via the Jethro Tulls.

Benefit, Aqualung (2011), Aqualung (2016),A Passion Play, War Child, The Minstrel In The Gallery,Too Old For Rock And Roll, Too Young To Die.

I total=81 bonus surround and includes the 3 extra quad tracks, but with the additional quad album tracks of the actual lps (all 11 tracks each, but 10 for War Child......we get a total of=124 combined quad/5.1bonus tracks.

You could say with S.W.'s TULL remixes we get our bucks worth and much more!!

With "StandUp" we should get......2 more.(y)

Thick As A Brick,=0 bonus btw

Exactly. I for one would love to have a corrected DVDA of the recent "Brain Salad Surgery" release to fix the massive screwup in the bass levels on the 5.1 surround mix of "Karn Evil 9 3rd Impression". Maybe one day…

I'm sure he definitely means surround. I can't imagine going through the hassle of creating just new stereo mixes for those two tracks, especially when the latest Jethro Tull releases have not been shy of including bonus tracks in surround. :)
