Sony always seemed to be the one least interested in putting 5.1 mixes into their box sets. Nice to see them jumping on the bandwagon with this (as well as Eye in the Sky.) Plus, they're doing blu-ray, unlike Warner's typical lossy DVDs. Way to go Sony!

Would it be too soon to ask for some Springsteen or Billy Joel??? :hi ;)

It looks like the information originally came from our friends at @Bull Moose:

For $50, I'm sold!

And for those of you vinyl aficionados, the 6LP vinyl version also contains the 5.1 Blu-Ray:

:)
I'd like to order from Bull Moose, but those links just take me to their home page, and a search doesn't yield anything on this release.

I think the links got pulled for now, but we have all the info, and I downloaded the small packshot of the release too. :)

Wow! This one was always known to decode well as the original stereo has lots of out of phase information. A truly discrete 5.1 mix could be incredible if done correctly.

Any word on who's doing the mix? (Edit- I see it's Eddie Kramer- is he credited with any existing surround mixes?)

Hendrix finally getting released in HD digital after all these years?!?! (And pcm too!)
And a new 5.1 mix by Kramer?!

Can hardly believe it even.
Mandatory purchase right here!

Depending on the price, I'll take the bonus extra copies in vinyl over CD if it's the same bluray disc!

Huh...
Didn't expect to see this. I'd be really happy with just 24/96 copies of all the original stereo and mono mixes!

Holy smokes! I've been ignoring this thread all day, just because I never would have believed any Hendrix would be released in surround.
But wow! This is beyond awesome. I hope it's a wonderful mix.

For me...if it just has better fidelity...I'll be happy...the surround element is just a bonus on this release...the track record for that is not exactly promising...but at least it hasn't been "jimmy paged" to death with constant cash cow remastering...

Great and unexpected news in light of the stereo only SACD's of Experienced and Axis being released. If I had to choose only one to have in surround it would be Electric Ladyland!

That's a tough call for me...you have Ladyland with Crosstown Traffic...Voodoo Chile...and of course my favorite Hendrix song..All Along The Watchtower....but with Experience you have Purple Haze...Hey Joe..and Foxey Lady...if All Along The Watchtower would have been on the Experience album.... for ME it would have been the greatest album of all time:love:

Well, this autumn is turning out to be one expensive season. Between the Beatles WA box,Lennon Imagine, Tull and other box sets I'm missing my family is just gonna have to understand when there's no gifts under the tree for them this Xmas. Daddy needs these goodies. :LB And now.. The Hendrix Electric Ladyland! :rocks
