I'd like to think that Kramer has made a wonderful surround mix of this. :)
Still, if the original stereo mix at least equals the Deutsche Grammophon vinyl, I'll be happy. If it betters it, I'll be VERY happy!

Looks like some more liberated cleaned up bootleg fair on disc 2 there (that we've had dodgy copies of for a long time) which is always welcome!

Wonder if it will get the original cover this time around?
Word on the street is the man himself was NOT a fan it turns out!

From Eddie Kramer's Wikipedia page:
"In 2004, Kramer had several Hendrix-related projects, including helping DigiTech design and create an effects pedal which emulates characteristically Hendrixian guitar sounds. He also remastered Hendrix albums for Classic Vinyl, and remixed Woodstock, a posthumous live release, in 5.1 surround sound."

I assume this is on the Woodstock DVD or Blu-Ray release? I suppose it's not really fair to judge his surround prowess based on a live mix...

This is the part that really interested me:
"Also in 2011 he recorded preeminent pedal steel blues/gospel guitarist Robert Randolph and the Family Band on the album Lickety Split, and Carlos Santana, a guest star on two of the album's tracks, as well as completing further mixes of Hendrix recordings in 5.1 Surround Sound. "

Anyone know what these might be? Unreleased mixes? Could this Electric Ladyland 5.1 be an old shelved mix?

I never knew that. And I'm a big JA fan.

Whoever mixes this had better take advantage of Jack on bass: should make it sound more like 5.4 than 5.1 :p

Apparently Hendrix annoyed the studio engineers by bringing in friends so that a party was always going on, and Jack was invited to sit in on "Voodoo Chile." He gets credit for it on the album cover.

Can you imagine a studio album with Casady supporting Jimi on all the songs? :D

Electric Ladyland Deluxe Edition includes a full color, 48-page book containing Jimi’s handwritten lyrics, poem and instructions to his record label, as well as never before published photos from the recording sessions that were shot by Eddie Kramer himself. All contained in a deluxe casemade book with new cover art which is true to Hendrix’s original vision of the album’s cover: a Linda (McCartney) Eastman photograph of the band and children at the statue of Alice In Wonderland in New York’s Central Park.

CD1: the original album, now newly remastered by Bernie Grundman from the original analog tapes.
CD2: Electric Ladyland: The Early Takes, which presents 20 never before heard demos and studio outtakes from this period in Hendrix’s career.
CD3: Jimi Hendrix Experience: Live At the Hollywood Bowl 9/14/68, part of Experience Hendrix’s Dagger Records official bootleg series. The never before released recording captures the band and the mounting excitement that took place just weeks before the release of Electric Ladyland.
Blu-ray: includes the acclaimed full-length documentary At Last… The Beginning: The Making of Electric Ladyland plus a new 5.1 surround sound mix of the entire original album by Hendrix’s original engineer Eddie Kramer plus the original stereo mixes in uncompressed 24 bit/96 kz high resolution audio.

He also mixed the Monterey Pop film (Jimi Plays Monterey) in 5.1. They are good mixes, very true to the original sound while at the same time more hifi and powerful.
